A recent custom side table we built. While we had specific size parameters, we were given free range on the style.
To mix things up, we chose a live edge white pine slab that normally would have ended up in the chip pile. This particular oddball piece had a lot of character, with a unique knot and grain pattern that really stood out.
We paired the slab with rough-cut 4x4 post legs that had natural worm holes throughout the wood. Instead of trying to hide them, we embraced them—they add character and give the piece a really natural, rustic feel. The legs were sealed with a clear finish to keep that raw look, while the top received a light stain to highlight the grain.
Sometimes it’s the odd pieces that turn into the coolest projects.
