πŸ“£ Trees, shrubs and evergreens ARE NOT annuals and hanging baskets, please make sure NOT to water everyday
πŸ’¦ Newly planted landscape needs a thorough and deep watering to promote a healthy root system
πŸ₯΅ In the event that temperatures reach the 90s+ consecutively with no rain, the watering can be bumped to every 3-4 days

πŸ“£ Dyed mulch needs 24 to 48 hours of dry, sunny weather after installation for the colorant to bond securely to the wood fibers. If it rains before this critical drying period, the dye can wash off, leading to faded mulch or stained driveways and sidewalks.

If the mulch is already spread πŸͺ
DON'T PANIC YET: Light rain usually won't ruin everything, but it can make the dye run. Once the rain stops, lightly fluff the top layer of your mulch beds with a rake. This evens out the color intensity and helps the wood dry more evenly in the sun.

If it is still in a delivery pile πŸ›»
COVER IT UP: If the mulch hasn't been spread and rain is in the forecast, do not lay it. Cover the pile securely with a heavy-duty tarp.

WE RECEIVE CALLS DAILY!!! It's very important for customers to understand that sometimes there is no one reason why a plant may not survive. After a 'real' winter and now a wet and cold spring we are seeing a lot of struggling plants.

Q. Why did my tree die?

A. That is one question we receive here a lot at the Extension Office. If it’s not biotic issues (living organisms such as insects, diseases, or pathogens), trees may die from one factor or a combination of factors such as drought, excessive moisture, soil compaction, poor drainage, planting too deeply, construction damage to roots, or other physical injury. Environmental stresses like extreme heat, winter injury, storms, or salt and herbicide damage may also play a role. By the time symptoms such as dieback, poor growth, yellowing, or early leaf drop become obvious, the tree has often been under stress for some time. Learn more at

Not all plant problems are caused by insects and diseases. Many tree and shrub problems are due to environmental issues or planting errors.
