More PVC trim details. Little details like this is what can separate you from the average installer just looking to get the job done. I want my projects to look awesome for decades to come and I want everyone that sees it to know that I'm the one that installed it. That's how you get more jobs. Sometimes it's important to slow down and think it through. This was an area that could've looked like crap if someone wanted to just get the job done as soon as possible.

Last year we tested cordless framing nailers. The Makita was not available at the time of testing. But this is somewhat of a preview of one of the abuse tests. LVLs are hard, consistent in density, and a true test for any nailer. We used .131 slick shank 3" nails for this test. I was trying to push them as fast and hard as I could. I tried to be as consistent as possible. If you'll notice the DeWalt sunk all the nails, but skipped a nail every other nose bump even with the amount of blowback or kick. That said, I really like the new DeWalt framing nailer. It was great on the job site. Is this test realistic? Of course not. But I was trying to abuse the nailers, because why not?

I've always been a fan of staplers when fastening starter strip. For years I used a smaller Senco Stapler, but recently I upgraded to this model and I've got to say I'm absolutely loving it. This baby shoots a ⅜" crown Staple, I use the galvanized flavor for corrosion resistance.

How to flash rabbeted PVC trim - The key here is the very first bend. That first bend creates the "roof" over the edge of the PVC trim. Without that bend, you would simply have a j-channel and water could enter between the back of the PVC face and the front of the j-channel. I make sure that the first bend is slightly wider than the thickness required to cover that small area just to make sure we're safe. Because of this, I also have to make sure that the black side of the coil stock is facing down on the finished product so that it blends in with the black PVC trim. You know what makes bending these trims easier? That Tapco Pro19 brake from and all those awesome accessories. I can't say enough good things about the new Tapco Tape gauges. Game changer stuff right there.

Who would've thought a digital torpedo level could come in so handy! As soon as I saw made this thing I had to have it. Now we use it all the time and I wish I had it earlier in my career. Very handy tool!

Still the easiest way to cut a 4x4 post 👍. The Special K Special. Don't be jealous of the skills being showcased here. Often imitated, rarely duplicated. Pure talent on display right now.

Flap discs work great for removing excess spray foam. Leaves us with a nice flat surface for this attic remodel where we need to install another layer of rigid foam on top of the exposed studs.

Exposed fastener metal roof going on over ⅝ OSB. It's not going to sag between the trusses although I know many will say that it's going to in the comment section. Most people don't read this description so I can comfortably tell you if you are reading this, we framed this August 11, 2022. I visit this home all the time being that my brother owns this home. It's still not sagging. It's still not leaking. Everything looks beautiful. I'll never understand why some feel like water will rot out the Subfascia because of this detail. It will not. That's what the roof is in place to protect. Also I expect a lot of comments telling me that I will now have to cut my fascia metal. If you're using pre-bent fascia metal, you're a rookie. I'll take it one step farther, if you're using aluminum coil stock as fascia, you're cheap. We used Diamond Kote fascia on this project and it still looks beautiful. Let the flaming commence. Just know this, for every negative comment I receive on this video, you just helped me gain another 100 followers. Thanks trolls, I owe you a beer.

My go-to drywall adhesive GREAT STUFF construction adhesive. I started using this stuff on drywall about 10 years ago and haven't turned back. Used a few other foam style adhesives but they tend to roll off the substrate on vertical surfaces. This stuff grabs. Love it!

I really like these retrofit post brackets. This deck was a tall one and the posts were still in good shape other than the bottom. They buried the posts and did not even pour a footing underneath them. So we jacked up the deck enough to cut the bad portion of the posts off, poured a new footing, and then installed a post base and these retro fit brackets. are our go-to. If you've never tried their tools, I just can't recommend them enough.
