We live in strange times!
As I continue to look at our world, it continuously baffles me as to why our country is in a very different place. I am not a politician, nor do I want to join that arena, but I continuously ask myself - what makes me smile?
Well, here it is: Giving back to our community, especially the less fortunate children, and those in need of the smallest things most of us take for granted, makes me smile.
My team and I at Interiors by Steven G are blessed and fortunate! We have been able to navigate through a pandemic and have been able to stay strong and continue on our journey. As 2020 came closer to an end, I looked to my team and said, โWho can we help for the Holidayโs?โ We decided to reach out to our partners at Channel 10, with whom we have worked with for over 20 years, to help those in need.
Through Channel 10 I was introduced to Velma Lawrence, the Founder and CEO of The Embrace Girls Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting higher education and individuality in today's young women. After a few phone calls, I realized Velma's passion for - what I have come to call - her children. When she realized that I was not a crazy person for thinking this, everyone got excited!
We graciously took Velma's Christmas 'Wish List' and worked hard to make Christmas a reality for children that may not have had a Christmas otherwise. My team jumped into action and donated their valuable time away from their family and loved ones to help make my vision come true. Getting to play Santa Clause and seeing the children's faces light up was a fantastic feeling! A feeling of accomplishment, a feeling of love, and most of all, the feeling of giving.
My upbringing comes into question many times so to answer the question many who wonder, the answer is, I was not a child that grew up with diversity. I lived a middle-class life.
The reason for my brief story is to offer my vision of what can make you smile. As we continue our journey in life, with so many things transpiring around us that are beyond mine and anyoneโs comprehension, letโs all make a difference! Letโs all feel good about helping one another, and most of all, letโs all feel fulfilled with love. Find someone to help in any of the smallest ways possible, and I promise you, a big smile will come to your face, and you will feel like you just climbed Mount Everest!
I wish everyone to embrace their neighbors, friends, or even a stranger and make a difference.
MUCH LOVE,
STEVEN G
