✨Fun Fact Friday✨

🌼 Luther Burbank intentionally picked the name "Shasta" because he was reminded of the snow-capped summits of Mount Shasta in Northern California by the flower's brilliant, pure white petals.

🌼 Each Shasta daisy is more than a single bloom, exactly as other members of the Asteraceae family. The yellow center is composed of hundreds of tiny, clustered disk flowers, while the white petals are solitary ray flowers.

🌼 True Shasta daisies are not seen in the wild since they are the product of deliberate human crossbreeding.

🌼 The young leaves and bloom buds of the Shasta daisy are edible and occasionally added to salads, much like their relative, the artichoke.

✨Care Tips✨

🌼 Shasta Daisy🌼

🌼 Give them either full sun or partial shade. In exceptionally hot locations, they can tolerate little afternoon shade, but full sun is necessary to optimum flowers.

🌼 Root rot can result from damp soil in the winter, thus the soil needs to drain properly. Once established, they only require heavy watering once a week and are quite drought-tolerant.

🌼 In order to keep the plant from going to seed and to promote several flushes of new blooms throughout the summer, cut off wasted blossoms right away. Cut the stems back to 1 to 2 inches above the soil line in late autumn or following the first frost.

🌼 Divide your Shasta daisies every two to three years in early spring or early fall to maintain their vitality and keep the clump's core from fading out.

🌼 The Shasta Daisy is a popular perennial, recognized for it’s enormous, classic white Daisy petals with vivid yellow centers. It grows on robust stems and makes an excellent cut flower. ✨Fun Fact Friday✨

🌺 Even in hot areas, it is the first Hydrangea macrophylla to maintain its vivid, deep purple leaves throughout the summer without turning green in the sweltering July heat.

🌺 In 2017, a plant breeder at Bailey Innovations in Georgia made the discovery of this award-winning plant while purposefully searching for distinctive seedling traits.

🌺 Depending on the pH of your soil, the vivid, cranberry-red blooms can turn deep purple or amethyst. Alkaline soils shift the colors toward pink and red, whilst acidic soils produce bluer or purple hues.

🌺 The Eclipse is extremely resistant to common hydrangea problems including powdery mildew and Cercospora leaf spot, in contrast to certain older, pickier bigleaf hydrangeas.

✨Care Tips✨

🌺 Eclipse BigLeaf Hydrangea🌺

🌺 Thrives in dappled shade or partial sun. It can withstand more sunlight if you live in the Midwest or North, but afternoon shade is necessary to keep the leaves from burning in intense heat.

🌺 Rich, well-draining, slightly acidic (pH 5.5 to 6.0) soil is preferred. If the soil in your area is heavy clay, add compost.

🌺 Particularly during the first two years, keep the soil uniformly moist like a wrung-out sponge. To prevent fungal problems, water the plant's base.

🌺 Due to its Bigleaf genetic makeup, the shrub needs special attention to withstand severe, freezing winters. Arrange mulch, leaves, or pine needles in a mound around the plant's base.As an alternative, encircle the shrub with a cage made of chicken wire and insulate it with dry leaves.

🌺 Both new and aged wood are suitable for eclipse blooming. To promote new growth, give it a "light haircut" just after the first flush of summer blooms. If you cut it to the ground in late winter, you will cut off the buds for spring.
