LOCAL CUSTOM FRAME SHOP OWNERS
COMPLETE TRANSFORMATION TO
IMAGINE IT FRAMED

A longtime business in the Port Angeles community is being revitalized with a new look and name. Previously Karon’s Frame Center, the 17-year-old custom framing business is relaunching as Imagine It Framed with an updated facade and its first-ever website. The owners Rene´ and Larry Bauer were winners of a Retail Boot Cam

p from
Tru Vue (www.tru-vue.com), the leading manufacturer of high-end, UV- protective glazing in the custom framing industry. The Retail Boot Camp prize was a consultation with custom framing business expert Ken Baur of KB Consulting, during which it became clear the Bauer’s had reached a critical point in their success.
“As owners of this business for six years, we realize we have a strong presence in this community” said Rene Bauer. “But our building and sign were in desperate need of updating, a website was long overdue, and this was the perfect time to integrate the name we incorporated under over 6 years ago, IMAGINE IT FRAMED.”
We worked with the building’s owners and the Port Angeles Facade and Signage Grant Program to complete the changes to the storefront. The building features new windows and awnings, fresh paint in an eye-popping blue with white trim, and updated signage featuring the business name and logo.

With the store located along the main thoroughfare into the Port Angeles downtown district, the transition to Imagine It Framed will not only benefit the business but also boost the appeal of the area.
“This revitalization is truly a team effort with the support of our landlord, the city and Tru Vue,” said Rene´ Bauer. “As a local business owner, it is satisfying to see so much support coming from the city, property owners, and our industry. As strong supporters of the “Buy Local” philosophy we have utilized local talent such as; Ernst Fine Art Photography, Fox Painting, Glass Services Company, Jackson’s Signs, Smart Upholstery, & Wild Redhead Confections”
The new website (www.imagineitframedwa.com) showcases the work Imagine It Framed has done and provides customers with information about custom framing and the design process. Although the business thrived without an online home for many years, the Bauer’s saw the website as a way to assist people with seeing what we do, what services we provide, and share the story’s our clients share with us about their art, treasures, and memorabilia. It will further establish the shop as the choice for custom framing in the community and throughout the North West Peninsula.”
Imagine It Framed, 625 East Front Street, will celebrate its re-branding with an event for the public on December 9th, 2016, from 5:00 p.m.

Harry Goldstrom
From my earliest recollections I've had an interest in photography. As a 7-year-old I used a Kodak brownie in the Grand Tetons to capture my first photos. During my high school years I was asking my dad to borrow his Argus C3 as my fascination with photography grew. Toward the end of my college days, I had purchased my first SLR camera and was using a fellow student’s closet darkroom to process my first prints.
As the years passed I became interested in progressing to using larger film formats. The years were filled with both attending and teaching workshops while continually working to improve skills both in the field and the darkroom. I have been fortunate to have studied with master photographers Bruce Barnbaum and John Sexton.
My format of choice is 4”x5”, although I also work in medium format. In today’s digital
world, I much prefer continuing to work with traditional film and chemical processing. I become just as excited today as I first did over 50 years ago watching a print come up
in the developing tray or looking at a negative as I remove it from the fixer. The process continues to be a source of great enjoyment - as much as the field experience of taking the photograph.
My work has been published in several art magazines, the latest being
Art Star Digital Magazine published by World Wide Arts Press in conjunction with the Circle Foundation for the Arts.

Thompson Holmes
Of Port Angeles, Thompson is a lifelong fine art photographer who believes a photograph can do more than capture an image; it can suggest a sense of the spiritual. He aims for that with every shot. Thompson's motto could be: "Swing hard at every pitch - you might just hit one out of the park."
Self-taught in photography, he worked at Genesis studio in West Virginia, focusing on weddings, portraits, and product photography. He fell in love with black and white through studying the monochrome masters, and the format remains central to his work.
Thompson's educational background includes studies at Luzerne County Community College in Pennsylvania, Lane Community College in Oregon, and West Virginia University's Potomac State campus. He studied oil painting under artist Francis M. Tarr, whose work continues to influence his eye for composition.

Ernst Ulrich Schafer
I've been involved with photography well over 50 years and mostly in Black & White. My mentor, Shedrich Williames inspired me not only to be a good photographer but also to become an artist with my camera.
I opened a Professional Portrait Studio here in Port Angeles and was in business for 20 years. I can't tell you how excited I became about the world of portraiture.
I am working on many personal B&W projects and learning even more to see for myself. I hope you enjoy viewing all of the work exhibited at this show.

From science to action through art.

On Thursday, April 30, attend the next event in our Civic Minds + Creative Hearts lecture series. Natalie Niblack, the artist currently exhibiting the pictured installation “66 Birds/ 3 Degree” will present in partnership with fellow artists Northwest Poet Holly Hughes, Canadian-American composer and performer Sarah Bassingwaighte, and philosopher-essayist Kathleen Dean Moore.

Together they will create a transformative evening that helps translate scientific understanding into words, music, and art that make the facts of climate change deeply real, visceral and relatable.
