Got a cast iron pan you’re not sure about? Bring it in. 🍳

We’re teaming up with Wild Camp Goods for two free, drop-in cast iron events this fall:

Cast Iron Diagnosis Clinic
Friday, Oct 30 · 3–5 PM
Rusty, sticky, flaking, or handed down with a mystery history: bring your cast iron and carbon steel, plus all your questions. We’ll look at each piece with you and figure out what it needs. Sometimes it’s a full strip and reseason. Sometimes it just needs to be cooked in more.

Seasoning Day
Friday, Nov 13 · 10 AM–5 PM
Bring clean, dry pans and season them on site in our smoker. Shop Wild Camp Goods and the neighbors between coats, then take your pan home ready to cook.

Both events are free and first come, first served. Come to one or both. Lye tank and seasoning supplies will be available to purchase if you want to keep going at home.

One of my favorite things about fall is that it turns a hike in the woods into a treasure hunt. 🍄‍🟫

Last weekend we headed out to enjoy some time outdoors and came home with nearly 2 pounds of chanterelles!

There’s something especially satisfying about cooking with ingredients you’ve gathered yourself. And these golden mushrooms are well worth the effort.

We’ve got a few ideas for putting our haul to good use, and of course, cast iron will be involved.

Broccoli beef with… SALSA?! 🤯

I know it sounds a little strange, but trust me on this one.

The secret ingredient in this ridiculously easy broccoli beef is River Girl Salsa🌶️! It adds a ton of flavor without a long list of ingredients, and the whole thing comes together in one cast iron skillet.

It’s quick, delicious, and perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Two reasons I love the Vancouver Farmers Market:

1. You can get everything you need for a shockingly simple, elevated dinner in one place.

2. The vendors are good sports when you ask them to make ridiculous cooking noises for a Reel. 😂🔊

This dinner was NY strip with sautéed oyster mushrooms and chimichurri. It looks fancy, but it was ridiculously easy and came together in one cast iron pan.

🥩 NY strip from Windy River Livestock
🍄 Oyster mushrooms from The Pacific Spore
🌿 Chimichurri from River Wave Foods
🔪 Steak sliced on my Davisville Woodworks cutting board

Sear the steak, pull it out to rest, sauté the mushrooms in the same pan, slice, add chimichurri. Done.

Huge thanks to the Vancouver Farmers Market vendors for the delicious ingredients and for being willing to get a little silly with me. 😂

This might be the easiest way to make brunch look impressive. 🍓

A cast iron Dutch baby puffs up dramatically in the oven with crispy golden edges and a soft, custardy center. And unlike pancakes, there’s no standing at the stove flipping batch after batch.

Bring the whole skillet to the table, add fresh berries, powdered sugar, and a squeeze of lemon, and brunch is done.

Perfect for squeezing in one more slow summer morning with people you love.

Stuck-on eggs happen. 🍳

In this case I cooked onions and ham in this skillet first, and as those ingredients cook and brown, sugars can contribute to a stickier surface once the eggs go in. Plus, the skillet was too hot to allow the eggs to set properly before messing with them.

Delicious? Yes. A little messier to clean? Also yes.

Luckily, cleanup doesn’t have to be difficult. My go-to routine uses the tools in the Essential Cast Iron Care Kit:

🧹 Brush away the loose stuff
⛓️ Use the chainmail scrubber on stubborn spots
✨ Finish with a tablespoon of Conditioning Scrub to clean + condition
💦 Rinse
🔥 Dry with heat
🙌 Done

Each tool has a job, and together they take you from stuck-on breakfast to a clean, conditioned skillet ready for the next meal.
