About the time I laid the first board in this upstairs sunken bonus room I was asked if I could please make this a for to match the pad she currently danced on. I said, “no.” Then said, “yes.” I hit the pause button, read, researched, called, consulted and then decided on this 3/4” rubber spring system, 32 evenly spaced beneath each sheet of 4 plywood laid perpendicular to the joist. Then, one more sheet of 4 ply running 45 degrees to it, glued and short staples together. This springy, energy returning system is a great option for serious dancers. A solid white oak to match the rest of the house was nailed down and site finished. To address the required 1/2” wall gap spacing I installed a FJP base shoe moulding to the base trim to allow movement without a visible gap.

Here is a 4” 1 com red oak flooring from Wisconsin that is a go to mill choice for homeowners who can appreciate longer board lengths and fewer mineral streaks than more common oak flooring from the south. This patron was very sensitive to fumes and wanted the flooring to be as light in color as possible without a bleaching sealer. The choice was easy, Bona Classicseal for the seal cost followed by 3 top coats of Bona Traffic HD in Satin. This 2 component water based polyurethane boasts being both hardest in class and lowest in VOCs without compromising sheen quality or curing time. It’s a close competitor in terms of long term durability to the oil based 2 component acid cured polyurethanes (Swedish finish) but without the fumes. Just a quick screen/clean/recoat at a local frat house. They wanted a gloss shine so I used a super strong 2 component waterbased finish from Bona Industries that’s also low VOC and can be walked on in 3 hrs. Plus- dustless sanding for the buff down.

Refinished this old oak floor in professor hill. Had been beat up pretty bad, but no prob with the newest in dustless sanding technology!

Added some oak flooring with a weave and some new baseboards. Cherry stain with 3 coats of satin.
