My name is Allison and I am the owner and founder of this Maine-based creative business. I am a furniture artist, first and foremost, but I do have frequent love affairs with vintage shops, interior design, power tools, and other crafty goodness. "Gooey Gump" came about as a childhood nickname given to me by my parents. It was a term of endearment when I faithfully went a little too far on a class

project (...just *one* more flourescent swirl, star, or googley eye on a science fair poster meant that I had "gooey gumped" it up). It was an afternoon activity growing up as an only child "Just go to your room and gooey gump something for a few hours until dinner is ready". And perhaps the most often as a replacement curse word when I inevitably splashed, spilled, or dumped, nail polish, puffy paints, or glitter onto my bedroom carpet. We are starting to offer the pieces in the shop that we haven’t really let be for sale yet, starting off with these very cottage core garden vibes items. DM to claim!

The octagonal occasional table is straight out of a European garden. It’s hand painted and then we used Iron Orchid Design’s Peony Decals to give it the special character. Multiple top coats means that it will hold up for years and years to come. Picture a cup of tea, a sweet vintage chair and all of the rooms this would be fun in!

Good news: the shelves are still full and the treasures are still treasure-ing. Bad news: you’ll need a couple of hours to do the two full floors justice.

I just limped home from our first Saturday since announcing the store closing and I’m just overwhelmed thinking about the love and support this community has shown us. If I could pay the bills on laughs and hugs we would be here forever and ever!

I’ve read every single comment and DM and I promise I’ll get back to them all when I can. There are so many emotions wrapped up in all of this, but a dear friend from high school texted me this morning and it kind of put everything into perspective:

“I’m reading all the comments about how much people love you, and I just want to tell you you’re a badass. I’ve obviously known that for a while, but you truly made an impact on an insane amount of people… and honestly, that’s what life is meant to be.”

That one got me.

Because the truth is, you’ve all made just as much of an impact on me, my family, and this business over the years. There really aren’t words for what that means to me.

And then… this queen and her MOM casually booked an impromptu weekend trip from Upstate New York just to come visit the shop today and I honestly cannot even handle it. 🤍

After a lot of thought (and A LOT of messy emotions), we’ve made the decision to close GooeyGump Designs.

What started over 15 years ago as a creative side hustle in my garage somehow turned into this wildly exhausting, beautiful thing that became such a huge part of my life- and so many of yours too.

And if I’ve learned anything over the years, it’s that sometimes being a good business owner means knowing when to evolve instead of just pushing harder.

I’m incredibly proud of what we built here. Proud of the risks, the growth, the community, the chaos, the creativity… all of it. I hope I’ve shown my daughters (and maybe some of you too) that grit and gumption are a fierce mix.

Starting immediately (Wednesday) and continuing through June, GooeyGump will be open for our FINAL month of regular shopping hours.

To celebrate this last season the store will be 30% off throughout June (excluding furniture). The store is still full, beautifully stocked, and feels like the GooeyGump everyone knows and loves. Once things start disappearing, they’re gone for good.

Over the next month, I’ll be sharing memories from all of the past chapters, because this place was never just a store to me. It’s the reason I have so many of your sweet faces that I will miss so deeply.

P.S. Can we go get a coffee or a drink soon? I suddenly have weekends free 😉

Happy Mother’s Day to the woman behind the word “GooeyGump.” ❤️

Long before this business existed, “gooeygumping” was what my mom called the hours I spent completely lost in messy art projects, crafts, redecorating my room, and whatever creative chaos I had dreamed up that day. To her, it basically meant “go tinker around and get out of my face for a few hours.” 😂

She’s the hardest hustler I’ve ever known. Tough as nails, wildly resourceful, endlessly resilient. She taught me how to work hard, push through, improvise, and figure things out even when they aren’t perfect. Honestly, a lot of both the best and worst parts of my work ethic came directly from her because just like me she doesn’t know how to stop and take care of herself.

This photo feels very on brand for us: my mom pushing my (now 8 year old) baby around in a shopping cart because a stroller “wasn’t really her thing.” Functional. Efficient. Slightly unhinged. Full of love.

There wouldn’t be a GooeyGump without her- not just the name, but the spirit and down right stubbornness behind it.
