Should I cut tree branches hanging over my roof?

A branch hanging over your house isn't automatically a dangerous branch and cutting everything back or away from the roof can sometimes do more harm than good.

What actually matters?

• Is the branch dead, damaged or poorly attached?
• Is it rubbing the roof or structure?
• Is there enough clearance for normal movement?
• Will removing it negatively affect the tree's structure or balance?

Sometimes pruning is the right answer. Sometimes a little clearance is all that's needed. And sometimes that big limb over your house is perfectly healthy and doing exactly what trees do.

The goal isn't to keep trees away from your home. It's to manage them safely around it.

Not sure about yours? That's what an arborist assessment is for!

There's something pretty special about making a living working outdoors, surrounded by the trees and land that make Alabama so beautiful.

This Labor Day, we're thankful for hard work, good people, the opportunity to build a business in this great country, and a crew that isn't afraid to get their hands dirty doing it.

Proud to to call Alabama home. And always proud to be an American 🇺🇸

Why can two tree service estimates be so different?

We recently received a 3-star feedback score with the comment

“Too expensive.”

Fair enough. Professional tree care can be expensive.

But here's something homeowners should know, two estimates with very different prices may not actually be estimates for the same thing.

Professional tree care starts before a saw ever touches the tree.

It means understanding the tree, identifying defects and potential risks, knowing what should be removed — and just as importantly, what should stay.

It means choosing the right equipment and techniques for the property, safely lowering limbs around homes, roofs, fences and landscaping, making proper pruning cuts, protecting the surrounding site and leaving the property clean when the work is finished.

And sometimes the professional recommendation is actually not to do the work you originally called about. A tree you thought needed removing may be manageable. A tree you wanted heavily pruned may not need it. The cheapest recommendation today isn't always the best decision for the tree or your property long-term.

So when you're comparing estimates, don't only ask

“What's the price?”

Ask.....

“What exactly am I getting for that price?”

A lower estimate isn't automatically bad. A higher estimate isn't automatically better.

Compare the scope. Compare the qualifications. Compare the recommendations. Then compare the price.

That's a much better way to choose who works on one of the largest and most valuable parts of your property.

September 1st in Alabama 🍂

Calendar: It’s basically fall.

Women: Put the pumpkins out.

Men: Football.

Trees: We’ll change colors when we’re good and ready.

Weather: Best I can do is 94° with 87% humidity.

😂 Who’s already pretending it’s fall anyway?

Bye August, Hello, September! 🍂🌳

As we wrap up August, here are a few things you may start noticing in your trees over the next month:

🍂 A little early leaf drop
After a long, hot Alabama summer, some trees may start shedding leaves early — especially if they've experienced drought stress.

🌳 Changes in the canopy
Late summer is a great time to notice thinning areas, dead branches or sections of the canopy that just don't look quite right. Once the leaves start falling, those clues can be harder to spot.

💧 Don't put the hose away just yet
September can still be HOT. Newly planted trees especially need to be monitored and watered when the soil is dry.

🐛 Keep an eye out for pests
Fall webworms and other late-summer insects may still be active. Not everything you see requires treatment, but knowing what you're looking at matters.

🌱 And the good stuff is coming...
We're getting closer to one of the BEST times to plant trees in Alabama! Cooler temperatures mean less stress on newly planted trees while their roots have time to establish.

September doesn't mean your trees are finished for the year — they're just getting ready for their next season. 🍂

There's something about shutting it all down at the end of the day and looking back at what was accomplished.

Tired is a little easier to appreciate when it comes from a good day's work.

Daylight ran out. We didn’t.Just good work and properly pruned trees.
