Bye bye, pink peonies! It was a short, sweet season. May your white sisters bloom soon! Next year there will be a lot more peonies on our farm. I’m expecting a shipment of peony plants to arrive soon. *happy dance*

One of the hardest things about vending at the farmers market is keeping up with rhubarb jelly sales. Yesterday I made a huge batch of what I call our signature jelly: rhubarb lime vanilla bean. My kids were very happy there was a bunch left over and it disappeared quickly last night.  Hopefully this batch will last me several weeks of markets. On the other hand, it would be awesome to sell out tomorrow. 🤣 Come by Spirit Lake Community Market at the big park 4 to 7 and try a sample. (Market hack:  go grab a slice of sample bread from some of the awesome bread vendors and run over to my stand to slap some jelly on it. Amazing snack! 😅) I also loaded up on more freeze dried mango, which has turned out to be one of our favorite freeze dried fruits. Come by my stand tomorrow and see why.

It’s pretty perfect when bread-making day happens on jelly-making day. Particularly when it’s rhubarb lime vanilla bean jelly and there’s a ton extra after filling the jars. (And when there’s Kerrygold butter in the fridge!) I’m stocked up on our signature jelly for farmers markets for a while, and the kids bellies are full of homemade deliciousness. Now I’d better go start wiping sticky jam prints off all the kitchen surfaces! 😅

I was really excited to find salt water taffy at Trader Joe’s last week and they freeze dried beautifully. That means another fun product to have at the market this evening. I’ve been on the hunt for candies without corn syrup and artificial food dyes, and these are a great one!  As usual we will have samples and look forward to sharing a fun evening with local friends at the Spirit Lake Big Park 4 to 7.

I know it sounds cliched, but many hands really do make light work! I had two large patches of ground to be cleared for asters today and the weeds were thick. Seven of my my nine kids went at it and a friend brought her eight kids over and with my mom’s help we quickly removed wheelbarrow load after wheelbarrow load of unwanted greenery and planted in my favorite China aster plants. Just two hours! Thankful for so many helping hands to bring my garden to life during this intense gardening season. I can’t wait for the blooms in August. 😍
