Another beautiful kitchen wrapped up for John Cacciola Construction in Havertown!

We installed these classic 2x6” tiles for the backsplash, adding the perfect finishing touch to an already amazing kitchen. The clean, timeless look really ties everything together, and we were happy to add a little bit of our work to the beauty of this space.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Dan with . He’s another local quality Delco tile installation company. And when I say local….I mean LOCAL! I saw his sticker on a street sign at the end of my block and then we learned our sons play on the same soccer team. 🤔…. this is Delco folks. Small world but plenty of room for quality craftsman to share.
I had to answer back and then pull a strike of my own 😝. After I planted the goods Dan and I talked shop for a while and I learned we’ve walked similar paths. Great guy and knows his stuff. Looking forward to chatting it up again soon. Tile on my friend…. And I’m watching you 👀 😂

👀 A little behind-the-scenes action at the THREE BROTHERS TILE shop today…

We had an awesome visit from the team at DEWALT, talking tile tools, sharing real-world feedback from the field, and getting a chance to be part of some conversations around the future of tools in our trade.

Really cool experience having our crew’s opinions heard directly by people involved in research and product development.

There’s a lot more we’d love to share… but for now, we’ll just say stay tuned. 🤐🟡⚫

TILE TALK — CHECK YOUR LOT & SHADE NUMBERS!

Here’s a simple step that can save you from a BIG problem later:

Before you install a single tile, check EVERY box.

Tile is manufactured in batches, and from one production run to another there can be slight variations in shade, color and appearance. That’s why the boxes are marked with identifying lot/shade information.

Just because the name, size and color printed on the box are the same does not automatically mean the tile inside is an exact match.

Mix two different production lots and you might not notice it while you’re pulling individual pieces out of the box…

But once that floor or wall is installed, grouted and you step back?

👀 Now you’ve got an area that’s slightly lighter, darker or just different from everything around it.

And at that point, the fix can mean tearing out perfectly good tile and doing it again.

This is also one reason we prefer purchasing through reputable tile distributors whenever possible. They’re generally more accustomed to managing dye lots, shade variations and quantities for professional tile installations.

With big-box stores, inventory can come from different shipments and production runs — especially when you’re grabbing boxes from the shelf or combining inventory from multiple locations.

But regardless of where the tile comes from:

THE INSTALLER NEEDS TO CHECK EVERY BOX BEFORE INSTALLATION.

✅ Same manufacturer
✅ Same tile/color
✅ Same size
✅ Same lot/shade information
✅ Inspect the actual tile for visual consistency
✅ Mix tiles from multiple boxes during installation for a natural blend when appropriate

Five minutes of checking boxes can save you from ripping out an entire installation.

Check it before you set it.

Tile talk.
Running around and gathering tools and materials prior to the start of each job or even during the project can be very time-consuming. I would love to get a feel for how other contractors tackle this challenge. Do you have a space or a system in place that you can stock your consumables and raw materials so that you’re not wasting a bunch of time in between each project trying to gather? Maybe you have relationships with your reps or distributors whereas you can drop-ship materials on site? In that case, do you have a single distributor that handles mostly all of those items or do you find yourself still breaking to make runs? Does your GCs provide these items and have them on site already?

I hated stopping in the morning and again at lunch and making a run at the end of the day to be prepared for the next day. I started stocking the shop with all those everyday items and it’s been great. Sure there’s times when I encounter an issue where I’m missing something but it’s cut the wasted time down considerably.

What tricks do you have to keep running efficiently between jobs?

TILE TALK 🎙️ | WE ALL RISE TOGETHER
I want to clear the air on something.
I put these Tile Talks out there to share what I’ve learned over the years, pass along some tricks of the trade, and hopefully help another installer along the way.
Do I know everything? Absolutely not. Nobody does. I’m still learning too, and I’ll always be open to constructive criticism, different methods, and conversations that make all of us better at what we do.
But there’s a big difference between constructive criticism and hate.
If you disagree with something I do, let’s talk about it. Explain your method. Share your experience. Show your work. Maybe you teach me something. Maybe I teach you something. Maybe somebody reading the comments learns from both of us.
That’s how a trade gets stronger.
What I’m not interested in is going back and forth with people who show up just to insult, attack, or get attention—especially when they aren’t contributing anything that helps move the conversation forward.
There’s room here for different opinions. There’s room for different methods. There’s always room to learn. There’s just no room for hate.
A few things I believe strongly:
🧱 Knowledge shared is knowledge multiplied.
🧱 A rising tide lifts all boats.
🧱 When one craftsman gets better, the trade gets better.
🧱 We don’t elevate our own work by tearing down someone else’s.
🧱 Share what you know. Stay open to what you don’t.
There are a lot of talented setters out there doing great work in different ways. Instead of competing over who knows the most, let’s lean on each other, share what we’ve learned, and continue raising the standard of the tile industry together.
We all rise together. 🤝🧱

Tile Talk. This is a unique shower that has a couple features that are worth mentioning. First is an overhead rain shower, which must have proper feeds to it or it will not have the kind of pressure you may expect. Another feature is the shower has a curb-less entry. Although this may seem like a simple concept, it requires additional waterproofing and it’s very important to know the parameters of what it takes to have a feature such as this. You don’t want to discover too late in the project that you didn’t take the proper precautions on two features such as a rain showerhead and a curb-less shower entry.

Knowledge is power.

It’s all in the prep.

This is a shower pan repair we did in Prospect Park. This shower pan had several issues that lead to a failure. We took this poor design and faulty installed pan and corrected the issues for a seamless repair.
