Our newest employee and absolute powerhouse Rissa mad-dashed to URI — University of Rhode Island greenhouse after closing to get a whiff and viewing of the infamous Titan Arum Wednesday night! 🌷

She waited in line for HOURS!

And ultimately the verdict on the smell: "dead fish" but was quite the sight to see a flower that hadn't bloomed in so long. Yummy! 🐟

While we're at it, *please join us* to give a warm welcome to Rissa, who started working with us about 2 months ago 👏💕

Rissa recently moved from Minnesota but has lived all over! She has a background in graphic design, non-profit work and grew up on her grandparents farm in Florida, fostering a lifelong love and appreciation for plants! She enjoys video games, creating things, and has an awesome partner + great cats that she enjoys spending time with! 😻 She's also one heck of an organizer and super friendly.

We're so proud to welcome her to the Thea Plant Co family! 💗 Welcome, Rissa! 👏

Sorry y'all 🌿😊 Not a plant post!

This is long, but we wanted to fill you in on a few updates. First of all, owner Anastasia and Store Manager Jessianna have been spending a couple great days in Grand Rapids, MI at the Retail Success Summit!

We made new friends across the country, learned a lot about customer appreciation, reaching new customers and making people feel valued not only when they walk through our doors, but long after they have left, just to name a few highlights ❤️

Another big takeaway was the importance of community support and telling our story 📚

Truthfully, I (Anastasia) am a bit behind on that part but there's no time like the present. Many don't know this, but 3+ years ago, when I personally had no where to buy healthy houseplants, I decided to build this business during my 14 year corporate management career. I was working 70+ grueling hours a week, chipping away at this plant shop on nights and weekends and never really talked about that in fear of anyone questioning dedication to my day job.

But things have changed, *cough* (corporate layoff) *cough*, and to make a very long story short, now I am going full throttle on business and plants, alongside our amazing team 💪🏽

More on all that coming soon, but that lay off plus having an incredible team and Jessianna, is what has allowed time for so so many important things to happen, like this summit, our expansion, and being able to attend the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program recently. Anyway...

In the store, if you've stopped by lately, you probably noticed the big rearrangement... an overhaul if you will!

Well that's just the start of more changes. We will always be growing, always improving, and never stopping. 💯

More events, more promos, more collabs, more community involvement, more ways for us to connect with all of you... are coming soon!

How to choose the right pot 🌿✨

Ever wonder why some people swear by terracotta, while others stick with ceramic or plastic? Here’s a quick breakdown:

• Terracotta: breathable + classic, and generally lower priced than ceramic, but can dry out fast and can slowly break down from fertilizer, minerals, and watering. Visible stains and use can be visible on the outside of the pot. Good for plant parents that over-water, and plants that need to dry out significantly.

• Decorative Plastic: lightweight, affordable, great for beginners and places with high humidity. Can dry out the plant very fast depending on style.

• Glazed ceramic
They hold moisture more evenly, don’t stain, won’t absorb fertilizer or mineral buildup, and always look polished and elevated in your space. They’re also easier to clean and keep looking new long term. If you're an under waterer or travel a lot, go with this. As they aren't breathable like terracotta, they can hold onto too much moisture for some plants however.

At the end of the day, the “best” pot depends on your plant, your watering habits, and your space - but here are some tips that can help you choose.
