The easiest way to help pollinators is to keep something blooming for as long as possible. It doesn’t have to be complicated or fancy. 🌸
A few smart planting tips:
💜 Plant flowers in clumps instead of one here and one there
☀️ Most pollinator favorites bloom best in full sun
✂️ Deadhead some flowers, but leave plenty open for bees and butterflies
🌼 Mixing early, mid, and late bloomers keeps the garden active longer
Even a small flower bed can turn into a pollinator stop. ✨

Keep the butterflies healthy, happy and well fed!

Most butterfly gardens are missing one thing.

You planted nectar flowers.
Butterflies came.
And then… they disappeared.

Because nectar doesn’t make butterflies.

Caterpillars do.

A butterfly only lays eggs on very specific plants — called host plants.
Without them, your yard feeds adults for a few minutes… but produces zero new butterflies.

A true butterfly garden is not a feeding station.
It’s a life cycle.

Here are the plants butterflies actually need to reproduce:

• Milkweed (Asclepias) — the only nursery Monarchs have. No milkweed = no monarch generation.
• Dill, Fennel & Parsley — Black Swallowtail caterpillars live entirely on these leaves.
• Native Violets — required for Fritillary butterflies to exist in your yard at all.
• Native Asters — Pearl Crescent butterflies only lay eggs here.
• Spicebush — home of the Spicebush Swallowtail caterpillar (the “fake snake” one).
• Passionflower vines — where Gulf Fritillary and Zebra Longwing butterflies begin their lives.

Here’s the part most people don’t expect:

If you never see chewed leaves…
you don’t have a butterfly garden.

You have a butterfly café.

When you start seeing caterpillars, ragged foliage, and half-eaten plants —
that’s not damage.

That’s the next generation.

Anybody want a freshly dug up ornamental grass? It is a pretty one, but I planted it too close to something else. Handy hubby with his new-to-him big boy toy dug it, and it is ready for pick up. It is about a third to half of the size of the one in last picture. If interested, contact Vic L-dG and come get it!
