With summer finally feeling like it’s officially starting to wind down lol I have been thinking back on one of my favorite (and largest) events yet and I realized that with all the chaos of life, and having to just keep swimming at so many integral moments, I completely missed recapping Stanley’s bb shower/ block party!

It was a hoot of an event, and as I look back and reminisce I can’t help but be overwhelmed with gratitude for all the love that surrounds Stanley, myself, and my small business. Thank you everyone so very much for beings such a large part of the success of this venture. This event could not have been possible without the encouragement, and endless support of each and every one of you that showed up and helped us promote it. A huge and enormous shout out to the other businesses who made it so great, The Chef , Larissa’s Apron , and Gabagool Charcuterie . Hoping that it can only get better from here!

Idk ‘bout y’all but I’ve been ugly cryin’ today 😭💔

I’ve always loved Dolly. Her character, her spirit, her story and her music have all been very impactful to me as I’ve navigated adulthood in this big scary world. There has been a surprising amount of emotion for me today, and so I wrote out my thoughts, and I figured I ought to share them and not to keep them in… so here it goes:

I think the reason Dolly resonated so deeply with so many people was because in a world that seems so full of darkness and greed, folks like her feel like respite.
She was the heart of our nation. Someone who was symbolic of all the good qualities that we wish we could see in ourselves. She was unwavering in her commitment to spreading love and goodness into the world, to her authenticity and generosity, and was everlasting in her spirit.

Losing her today really does feel somewhat representative of where we are as a collective. It’s like we’ve lost our sense of humanity. Our greater psyche is in a crisis of identity because it no longer recognizes itself, in itself, because we are splintered and confused.

But Dolly refused hopelessness.

Her reminder to never lose your own sense of hope was loud and clear for me earlier today when I turned on the radio to grieve and listen to everything Dolly Parton, and the very first song she gave me was ‘Light of a clear blue morning’.
It felt personal, like she was telling me directly, “Don’t you dare lose hope. 🫵”

And that’s when I realized that for so many of us, her presence in this world was a personification of hope. Like I said, she was our heart. And at least for me that is her greatest impact.

It’s my greatest pleasure to announce that I’ve officially adopted this lil man as my son & sole heir. A Modern Plantsman Junior, if you will. Stanley “Staniel” Villareal, first of his name, King of cuddles, & stealer of sandwiches, my most tender & loving uncooked chicken nugget son, my little goblin monster punkin. I vow to care for him through all his days.

Some Stanley lore for ya, 6 1/2 months into getting to know the guy: First, he’s a talker, never shy to share an opinion, & affectionate beyond measure. If he could live inside your skin, he would. He yearns for warmth/love, & dare I say that I adore this part of him most.

But he is not without his frustrations or little terrors, which is why he was up for foster in the first place. He has an undiagnosed skin/GI issue, vomits regularly, & has the nervous system of a traumatized toddler.

We have no real record of Stanley’s youth. We believe he’s 9/10, & that goblins dropped him from the sky during a terrible winter storm. He was found by a passel of opossums, deep in the woods where no Sphynx had dared go. He occasionally hisses, a fun skill he picked up by his marsupial brethren. His kinked tail is a souvenir from losing an argument with a door. His 4th owner relinquished him unto me after all others failed to meet his demands or tolerate his extraterrestrial abilities.

He is but a lost, tormented soul in a cursed, hairless body with a tiny peanut for a brain.

On the real, we think one of his early owners used a shock collar on him & withheld his food. His tail was likely broken by being stepped on, or caught in a door. His only coping mechanisms are dissociating & scarfing food, BUT he makes a mean biscuit!

On a positive note, homeboy is a foodie to his core. Churu, tuna, chicken, & once, an entire Subway sandwich left unattended a min too long. He also loves back rubs! You’ll know you’ve got him when his head tilts back in pure kitty ecstasy.

Stanley needs real support, his health issues are ongoing, so but I’m up for the challenge. If you’d like to help with a vet bill, my Venmo’s Dominic@amodernplantsman btw.

We’re gonna do a baby shower themed party for him LATER THIS WEEK! Announcement pending!
