💧 Why Is My Well Overflowing This Spring?
📍 Seeing water pooling or overflowing around your well this time of year? You’re not alone.
During the spring — especially after snow melts or heavy rain — the ground becomes fully saturated and the water table rises significantly.
🌧️ What’s Actually Happening:
Snow melts + rain = excess groundwater
The soil can’t absorb any more water
The water table rises above normal levels
In some cases, it reaches the surface — including around your well
This can cause:
💧 Water pooling around the well casing
🚨 Overflowing well caps
⚠️ Increased risk of surface contamination entering your well
🛑 Why This Matters:
Your well is designed to pull water from below ground — not to handle surface runoff.
If water is overflowing:
It may carry bacteria, dirt, or contaminants
It can enter through improper seals or low well caps
It increases the chance of unsafe drinking water
✅ What You Should Do:
✔️ Check that your well cap is secure and above grade
✔️ Avoid using water if it appears dirty or cloudy
✔️ Consider a water test after heavy saturation
✔️ Call a professional if flooding continues
