Well, what do you know...the old girl is still alive and going strong. Hit my 90th birthday on the 10th of October. Decided to poke my head out and see if anyone was still out there. I am negotiating the sale of the property with a lifetime occupancy as part of the sale. Like my friend Joe, I want to leave this place feet first. Many years down the road of course. I did the farmer's market again this year but might not next. All depends on if the sale goes and what the new owners want to do. I just can't do the hard physical stuff anymore. Still work in the garden..got the garlic in last month. Late, but better late than never. Got the 3 greenhouses winterized and the brugs and abutilons all tucked in till spring. I think of you all often. Take care. stay well and if you are ever near, I am still here. My sis says they will find me someday, face down in the dirt, shovel in hand and a smile on my face. Can't think of a better way to go!

Well, did you give up on me? I gave up on Facebook for a while. I still have not found out who falsely accused me of copying their material, and actually don't want to know. There is just no place in my life for such unkind and petty persons. I lost my granddaughter Danika, my very dear friend, Joe, and my kitty in a very short amount of time. Then the false accusation about EVENSONG was just too much. So I rested emotionally for a while, took myself out to the garden, and created. NOW... my daughter DJ and I are busy recreating the place with a helper, John. Mind you, there is a long way to go yet but we are making great strides. We are once again at the Puyallup Farmer's Market on Saturdays. The pollinator garden and the blue garden are a work in progress but truly beautiful, even in their unfinished state. John is helping us work toward Joe's bird sanctuary dream. The stock for sale is all neatly arranged but the front flower beds are still disgraceful..don't you want to come w**d? I couldn't understand why almost none of my old friends/customers were dropping by then discovered we were listed on Google as "permanently closed" with a dreadful picture from years ago before I started working on the place. Who does such things? The truth? We are alive and well, we have lots of fantastic plants for sale...most of which we have grown from seeds or cuttings from the farm. We are at the Market on Saturday, closed on Wednesday and Sunday. Come by and say hi! And as always, if your soul needs refreshing, come sit a while, listen to the birds, and just BE. And if you get bored, w**d a bit. Being a customer is not a requirement to visiting us.

Doesn't this cool weather feel great? Well, it may to me and DJ but the tomatoes don't agree. I think we took our last full load to the food bank this week and we had to take a few that weren't fully ripe to fill the load. We may get a partial load of fruit for those who like fried green tomatoes but unless it warms back up, the crop is done for this year. I will miss walking down the road and picking a sun warmed fruit to munch on but life does move on.

It's going to be quiet here at EVENSONG for a while. Both DJ and her husband have Covid. So far I have no symptoms but will test regularly just in case. The cooler weather lessens the need to water so I should be able to handle things until both are well but things will get rather shaggy without Ian and his mighty w**d eater. He is also kind enough to empty all the wheelbarrows of w**ds, etc., that DJ and I keep filling.

It is one of my favorite seasons...the end of gardening season and the big box stores are busy marking things down...Hooray! Bargains! Lowe's has small chrysanthemums for 5 plants for $10. Five colors so I bought enough to plant 10 pots of them down the east fence line. We could never have done that at full price. Love rescuing those plants that are past bloom or lacked water and just need trimming back and TLC to thrive. My goal in life (one of them at least) is to have so many flowering plants and shrubs in the beds that there is no room for w**ds.

I won't invite you to come visit right now but I will notify you when all is well here. The brugs , Angel Trumpets, are beginning to bud up and bloom. I will add a couple of pictures to whet your appetite for our end of season sale. that will happen October 2. We will have a good supply of small brugs you can easily store over winter in your house as a house plant or in the garage for next Spring as well as lots of miscellaneous stuff at good prices.

We are starting making the cuttings for next year at the end of September so I am now working on cleaning and sanitizing the greenhouses. And speaking of that, I had best close and get with the program. All of the best to you and yours and may you have Peace and Joy in your heart.

Today I have a tale to tell. I hope it reaches you. The last two posts I have sent out have been removed because someone filed a complaint with Facebook. I cannot imagine how what I wrote offended someone but evidently it did. I have appealed the removal and hope for a good income, but I assure you my friends, every picture was taken by me. Every word was written by me. They are the mind meanderings of an 88 year old..well 87 until October..woman who loves life, her family, her little place here in the valley and means no harm to anyone or anything. I will write a new tale of EVENSONG a bit later today or perhaps tomorrow. I haven't had time to go out and see 'wha's happenin' yet trying to fix what shouldn't have been broken. Have a Blessed day.

What a beautiful Sunday morning. I went out to photo some of our remarkable crop of tomatoes and found blessings galore. The tomatoes and peppers shining in the sun. The pollinators, large and small, swarming on the mint blossoms. Some so tiny we cannot see the details enough to identify them. The garden manager (Suzy Q) inspecting the tomato pots. A Belgian Giant tomato grown so large it has impaled itself on its support. An antique variety of Fuchsia I had rescues from a 1927 house site 20 + years ago in full bloom. I am amazed at the growth of the garden in 14 short months . I will add a photo so you can see the progress. We had a customer from Iraq this week who was delighted to find fresh figs still on the tree. Something he had missed living here. A friend/customer coming by to get elderberries to make a tincture to use for winter colds. Life is good if one remembers to look for blessings, large and small each day. So we will share our blessings with you today and hope they make you smile. HAPPY SUNDAY!

Are you ready? Today's bounty is a pair of healthy choices. The Elderberries are ripe, hanging full and beautiful and the figs are drooping on the branches which means they are at the peak of perfection. How can you resist? Organically grown, healthy food.
And don't forget the tomatoes! We picked them 2 days ago so there are not as many fully ripe but there are a lot at "sit it on the windowsill and wait" stage.

This morning's flower star is a shrub who is about 10 years old. What a beauty. We have a few starts that I grew from cuttings made last year. Have you heard of our Sensational $6 Starts? These are plants we have started from cuttings of our own landscaping. Loads of this and that with not very many of any one variety. For instance, we have gold leaf lavatera, elderberries, weeping willow and Noid (No identification) hydrangeas ; but that's another subject.

We are open today, working out back on the pollinator garden. So come along down the driveway to where I am adding single flowered dahlias to fill the spaces that need color and food for the bees. Yesterday I watched a hairy woodpecker feast on something in the spent mullein stalks and the hummingbirds test out all the red flowers and look for more. Come enjoy the peace and take time to just BE. You are always welcome @ EVENSONG, a garden place Marilyn , DJ & Suzy.. she's the official greeter.

Hi Ho and it's off to the foodbank I go! What a joy to have the prosperity to be able to share food with others.Good, clean, no chemicals food. Tomatoes, a few peppers and a few figs with more to come. Give us a few days to ripen some more, then come get some for your own table.

The figs are ripening lightening fast so come soon because the birds and the ants are sure we have grown them for their pleasure. So sweet. So succulent. Variety: Dessert King...and they really are.

What's on my mind? The pollinator garden we are building. A full year into the project and it is really going well. If I hadn't believed in it before, I surely do now. Remember me commenting on the tomatoes? They are loaded with fruit to approximately 3 times their usual crop. We have so much fruit coming that we are going to offer some to customers by the pound. So here's the deal: fruit grown without chemical fertilizer, pollinated by bees, watered with well water, and vine ripened. You choose the fruit you want at the stage of ripeness that suits you. I thought we had 30 varieties but I was mistaken, we only have25. All kinds of colors, all sizes, all sorts of shapes. I can't help thinking of what an adventure it would be for a young child....and an adventure in taste for an adult. Starting August 1:
FRESH TOMATOES
VINE RIPENED
$1.50 #

And by the way, we also have Himalaya blackberries, grown without chemicals, watered so they are of a choice size and loaded with flavor. Ripe and ready to make jam. You pick.

Come visit. Explore the pollinator garden. Don't mind the w**ds, there are only two of us and that's not quite enough to keep it tidy. And the birds and bees don't mind at all. I will close with a picture of tomatoes. Marilyn & DJ at EVENSONG, a garden place
