Let’s talk about Red Yucca - a staple for us in the southwest!😎

Native to the Chihuahuan Desert, Hesperaloe parviflora is an evergreen perennial succulent that forms arching, sword-like (spineless) blueish-green leaves. Fibrous whiskers run throughout the plant, enveloping it in attractive coils. Highly drought-tolerant, this variety can withstand cold areas in Zone 6 and the scorching heat of the Sonoran Desert. Its tips turn a deep burgundy in the cooler months, transitioning back once warmer temperatures return. Characterized by its prolific stalks filled with bright, red tubular flowers and large seed pods, the plant is a favorite of hummingbirds and bees alike.

We had a wonderful time with newly appointed Arizona Department of Agriculture Director Paul Brierley and the Arizona Nursery Association this week! In addition to a full V&P greenhouse tour, we spent time exploring our tissue culture lab, sharing ideas as to how our community can continue collaborating and cultivating a sustainable future for our industry.
