Summer Green Bean Highlight

Garden fresh green beans are fun for the whole family! They are a delight to harvest and have such a delicate and delish flavor when harvested from your own backyard. Growing them can be a bit fussy here in Arizona because timing is everything! Planting the right varieties can help with the main issues that green beans have. This season, I’ve selected two favorites: Dulcina and Jade. I like these two varieties because they are stringless and when planted in late winter, produce an amazing harvest throughout spring and summer. If you’ve missed a good outcome from your green beans this spring, try them again from now until the end of August. Late summer/early fall green beans are possible too!

The Secret Life of Corn 🌽

Sweet corn is a tricky one but SOOOOO rewarding when you get it right. Three keys to growing corn in Arizona: 1. Must be planted close (~6 inches apart) and in a block or box pattern, not one or two lines. 2. Heavy feeders: corn needs lots of nitrogen during its first 4-6 weeks of growth. We use fish emulsion to accomplish this. 3. Have to keep an eye on it! Corn will dry out quickly. Once the tassels start to brown, check the corn every couple of days to see if kernels have plumped!

Armenian Cucumber Highlight

I’ve chosen to grow Armenian Cucumbers in our spring/summer gardens because they can handle our hot Arizona heat! I’m always working to improve Organic Gardening in Arizona and this experiment was a great success! 🥒🔬👩🏾‍💻🤓Traditional cucumbers tend to become bitter and yellow with heat. Armenian cukes are the way to go! Our clients love them! They’ve shared that they are fresh, crisp and yummy! 😋 🥰
