This beautiful log home and guest house on a working farm were greyed from years of weathering. The first order of business was to take it all back to bare wood by media blasting with crushed glass. Applied Tim-Bor professional fungicide/insecticide to protect from mold, mildew and invasive insects. Perma-Ch1nk Systems Lifeline Prelude primer, Ultra 2 water-based stain in dark honey, Advance top coat, and Check Mate 2 sealant make it look better and function as good as new again.

The owner wants to repair some of the decking using his own crew, and once finished we will be returning to wash and stain the decks & rails.

Another great compliment from a satisfied customer: he asked us to provide a quote to return and media blast/refinish a large wooden storehouse on-site. Repeat work and referrals are the best compliments!

Too much fun at The CabinSmiths annual Christmas/end-of-year party this weekend. We rocked ParTee Shack North Raleigh with games, grub, & holiday cheer.

We have so much to be grateful for, starting with the fine gentlemen who work with us and including our amazing clients and colleagues. What an incredible year!

The CabinSmiths breathed new life into this 1970's, hand-built, never-before-stained home in Suffolk, VA. The project scope included rot repair by refacing and epoxy patching; extensive caulking; washing; staining; and general carpentry work repairing decking, stair treads & landing. We also had the opportunity to make their DIY tree platform safe for their grandkids by rebuilding stairs and more.

We received the ultimate compliment for our work: a request to return soon for more repairs & updates.

From penetrating oil to a beautiful water based stain system. What a dynamic change for such a stunning home! We chemically stripped everything including the house, decks and outbuildings. Sanded and caulked where needed, of course. Repaired portions of the decks & rail posts. Borate treated the home, stable, and detached utility garage plus treated for bees. We then used Perma-Chink System's Lifeline Prelude primer, Ultra 7 in hazelnut, and Advance clear coat in satin, as well as Deck Defense in Hazelnut to match. This home is in Carthage, NC. (Note the exterior doors have yet to be stained.)

Whew! We've been so busy that we haven't had time to post in a while. This project was completed last month. It had a lot of woodpecker damage to logs, siding, and trim. We repaired it, washed and restained the home in charcoal. The homeowners will be taking care of finishing the porch, posts, railings, foundation, and trim. We love helping people love their log home.

"The CabinSmiths did a great job on the exterior of our log home in Seven Devils, NC. They washed, cleaned, repaired, caulked, filled holes, replaced logs where needed, and applied new stain and sealant. In addition to bringing the exterior logs back to like-new condition, they also cleaned and stained/sealed our wood porches which extend across the front of the house. We had to reschedule multiple times, once due to Hurricane Helene (!) and a couple of times due to rainy Spring weather. It was never their fault. They always showed up when they said they would and always double checked to make sure everything was done properly and nothing was missed. They were polite, professional, and never left a mess. The cost was less than two other estimates we received. We are well pleased and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for exterior log home maintenance or even deck cleaning, repair, and staining on a traditional home. They are located in Raleigh and will work anywhere on the east coast. Also, the communication with them was always prompt and courteous. Very satisfied!" - Laura P.

Fresh update for this mountain retreat in Seven Devils, NC. We did a wash & re-stain, as well as some repairs.

It was a long time coming, since we were ready to get rolling on it the week Hurricane Helene came through last September and had to abandon ship to stay safe. Thankfully, the cabin suffered no major damage; we just had to wait for new windows to be put in to protect it from further leaks.

Well worth the wait; it came out great.
