This month’s color spotlight shines on Burnt Umber, a timeless favorite that continues to ground and enrich interiors. With a deep brown base that leans between rust and brick, Burnt Umber offers an earthy sophistication and a subtle nod to nature’s warmth. Depending on the finish or fabric, it can read as warm and rustic or refined and modern.

Benjamin Moore just announced Silhouette as the 2026 Color of the Year and can’t be more excited about the handsome color choice.

This timeless brown blends burnt umber with hints of charcoal, embracing the warm, grounding tones we’ve been drawn to in recent years.

Silhouette is a handsome, statement-making color—reminiscent of a tailored suit and inspired by classic fashion.

It’s a rich, muscadine base that anchors the full palette of eight complementary hues, including Southwest Pottery, Narragansett Green, Raindance, and Batik. I can’t wait to experiment with them in upcoming projects.

Sherwin-Williams just announced Universal Khaki as the 2026 Color of the Year.

At first glance, it may not feel like the most exciting choice—like many neutrals, it’s quiet and blends in rather than making a statement.

But that’s exactly its strength. Universal Khaki is a timeless base, an elegant backdrop with more depth than a bright white. It has the weight to support bolder shades—deep reds, greens, and navy blues—that are trending right now. Think a tarragon sofa, artwork with rich auburns, or even a full-on color-drenched room.

I also see this as a shift away from the stark white-and-black homes that have dominated the past decade. While those look great in photos, they don’t always stand the test of time the way a soft, layered neutral like beige can.

And here’s my favorite part of the Color of the Year announcement: it’s never just one color. The full palette includes rich, contrasting hues like Dark Auburn, Limestone, Garden Gate, and Tarragon—all perfect companions to Universal Khaki. I can’t wait to try them out in upcoming projects.

Quick living room refresh for my client in Mendham NJ! We met up about two weeks ago, her ask was that after 25 years of looking at the same dated furniture she was in a rush to refresh it. The directive was “I need to love this room, or I’m listing the house.” We found in-stock furnishings and I’m happy to hear this client loves it. 💯 More to come
