In 1972 my father cut and sold his first load of firewood to help make ends meet for our family. As fast as he cut it, my sister and I loaded it on the truck. I remember him saying, “ Son give them their money’s worth and make sure it is cut to order”. In our peak time of delivering firewood, we would deliver 80 truck loads a season. A dying water oak we took down yesterday at Terry’s Cabins. It was hollow all the way through the trunk. That’s me standing inside the stump holding my chainsaw with a 36 inch bar on it.

Dear friends, this time of year is absolutely crazy for our industry. The rain we get really slows us down dramatically. We are working diligently to get caught up with our work load so please be patient. My father instilled in me the great work ethic I have today.... work smart and you won’t have to work as hard, don’t back down and don’t give up. With that said I was reminded today that sometimes you have to STOP and look at reality. We laid to rest two life long family friends, Mrs. Earline Edwards and Mr. Louie Luke, who lived long prosperous lives with wonderful families. I wasn’t able to attend Mrs. Edwards’s funeral but did attend Mr. Luke’s. I was reminded that life is short. We are only here for a little while. Sometimes you have to stop and smell the roses even if they in a funeral arrangement. We are saddened to lose friends but these friends are now sitting at the feet of Jesus and in that we can rejoice!! “The grass withereth and the flower fades, but the Word of our Lord shall stand forever.”

Some before, during and after pics of a project we did Wednesday. We widened a driveway three feet and added a tiered raised bed. The Bobcat MT 85 performed greatly! We removed 7 yards of soil, built two stacking stone retainers and spread 3 yds of slag with it. Plus installed plant materials and mulch in 8 hours. (3people).
