Going on a FB hiatus for a bit. I have not received any pre-orders for plants for 2026 and it is getting to be too late to start a lot of things from seed (I only do seed planting I don't purchase plugs or small plants to resell). Since I will not be seeding anything until the fall, there's no point in keeping this page running for now. Thank you for viewing or reacting to my posts, if you have! I appreciate you. 🙏

Hello friends,

My shelf is getting full... Newest seedlings to emerge are the peppers (mix of sweet and hot)! The perennial flowers (carnations, purple coneflower & shasta daisy) are still super small but they are trucking right along, same with the rosemary.

If you're interested in any flowers or edible plants for spring or summer, please check out my link that will lead you to the varieties and pricing information. I am not just w***y nilly starting a bunch of plants this year. DM me any requests to ensure I have adequate time to start them and/or set some aside for you.

Gardener vent sesh... learn from my mistake!

My "purple" carnations are actually going to end up being dark maroon or deep red. The seed packet and every photo on the site I purchased them from showed a very deep purple hue, however, when I Googled that variety I was flabbergasted to find that many gardeners had the same complaint - That it was false advertising to call this variety purple, as it definitely presents more maroon/red. The most frustrating part is that half of the seed sellers on the internet are showing it edited as purple, whilst the other half are showing it's true red hue. Had I taken a moment to research, I would have noticed that discrepancy in the images betwixt the sellers, which would have lead me to customer reviews and photos. I'm not angry, they are still beautiful flowers, the color is just not as advertised which is a bit frustrating.

So if you're seed shopping, take it from me - do a quick Google search and check images/customer reviews from multiple sellers (with photos) before you purchase!

I will be seeding two more 72 cell trays today. One for perennials and one for early, cold tolerant spring annuals.

I'm thinking Purple coneflower and white Shasta daisy for the perennial tray, and pansies and/or violas for the other... check the link (bottom of post) and lmk via messenger, or comment if you have any specific requests for perennials or pansies/violas! January and February is the time for me to start perennials from seed in particular, since they take so long to size up once they germinate. Most annuals I won't be starting until March, however, pansies are more cold tolerant than most annuals so that's why I start those earlier.

Yesterday I seeded a 72 cell tray with Lavender and Rosemary. The seeds were multi sown since both can have shotty germination rates. But I'm hoping to get at least 1 plant per cell on those! 😅🤞

Long time no post. Happy New Year to all!

It may still be winter, but did you know there are plenty of seeds that you can be starting indoors to prepare for the upcoming season, right now?! All you need is a light, and it doesn't technically need to be a grow light. My first year gardening was in a dark, basement apartment on a metal utility shelf and all I had were 2 basic shop lights that you would hang in a garage. Things still grew fine, I even got cherry tomatoes to ripen!

Onions (alliums) - I always start my seed alliums in January. I multi sow several seeds (30 ish) of the same variety in a 6in pot, and trim the tops once or twice before separating and planting them outside at the end of March. Don't fret, their wirey roots make them super easy to pull apart. Onions are heavy feeders, so you do need to give them a decent amount of food in order to get big bulbs!

Celery and Celeriac - These take a long time to mature. I have not had the greatest success with celery at home and I've never tried growing celeriac. But I'm going to try both and see what happens this year.

Perennial flowers and herbs - Most perennials either take a while to germinate and/or grow slower than annuals, so it's best to get a head start on them if you want them to be sizable as well as productive come Spring and Summer.

As a bonus, I've started 5 artichoke plants this month. They are perennial plants and a food crop so I'm looking forward to seeing how they do in my yard. Never grown these before either, wish me luck!

What are you dreaming of growing this year? Gibs Garden Grow can help! 🪴🌱🌿

Some of my remaining onions started to bolt and/or split - so I had to yank 17 more of them this morning. Friendly reminder to watch for flower stalks forming on your onions! This goes straight to the center of the bulb and will negatively impact the shelf life. Most recommend using bolted onions ASAP, some don't even bother to cure them. I'm still going to cure mine, but will try to keep these separate from the rest and use them first. If any of the remaining onions with decent sized bulbs flower I'll probably let them, so I can save seed for this winter when I start my crop for next year!

Hard to believe it but - It's time to start planting your seeds if you want a fall garden! It's particularly important to get your brassicas (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts etc) started ASAP so they are ready to transplant by or before mid August. This will give them approximately 60+ frost free days to put on growth and fully/mostly mature, since our first frost is estimated mid to late October. I'll be waiting on starting any more lettuces or leafy greens until August or possibly September, since they bolt in the heat. Below are the seeds I will be starting this weekend, if you need some inspo for your fall garden:

🔹️Kentucky Wonder Pole green bean - This is the only crop I'm direct sowing the seeds outside where they will be growing. The rest will be started in a 72 cell tray inside to help not heat stress them.
🔹️Cabbages - Red Acre, Copenhagen, Early Golden Acre, All Seasons
🔹️Broccoli - Waltham & Early Purple
🔹️Violetta (purple) cauliflower
🔹️Long Island brussel sprouts
🔹️Purple bok choy

Let me know what you're growing for fall! 🌿

First onion harvest. Approximately 50 pulled and drying plus at least that many, if not more, still growing in the ground. I planted multiple day length varieties, so they are maturing at different times. This is my first really successful attempt at growing onions! 🧅😁🧅😁🧅
