Congratulations Kristin! Stanton Schools is lucky to have you!
Stanton Schools Welcomes Kristin King!
Hello! I come to you, originating from a small town in Wisconsin, not too different from Stanton. I am one of six siblings. My goal was to exit the small town and explore and I did. In high school and beyond, I participated in many mission trips to Mexico and around the U.S. I studied Art at many schools, including UW-Green Bay, in Wisconsin, North Park University, Northeastern University & Truman College- all in Chicago. Being in Chicago, I got to be in the "big city" and go to world renowned art museums regularly. I also had the privilege of traveling to Italy for an art history class. I led mission trips in San Francisco, for one summer. Before, during, and after, college, I had the privilege of working for our denomination, which included travel around the country. Needless to say, I had escaped the limits of my youth. Marriage and family started and grew in Chicago and Crystal Lake, IL, my last of 4 children being born after we made the move to Iowa. It's fair to say that my art abilities have not reached any pinnacle. I have been able to continue dabbling in art projects through VBS decorations, general interior designing, and repurposing.
Our family of six made the trek to Stanton, after my husband, Matt, received an invitation to pastor at the Evangelical Covenant Church, here in town, a little over ten years ago. It all comes back around. All the basic hospitality that I learned growing up, in a small town, and was, at times, considered bewildering to many in Chicago, finds its home back in a small town. Potlucks are not as extinct as I thought they were.
I look forward to exploring this role and seeing if it is a good fit for me and my family. I think we were all made to create. Now we can see if I can teach how to create.
I will feel accomplished if I am able to connect with the students and engage them in the different projects. I am hoping to improve the classroom atmosphere. I also hope to utilize different types of media and projects, so kids get a good introduction to the many options available.
