It’s amazing what the right color of paint and a new rug can do for an entry.
I used premium Aura paint in color carbon copy because
high quality paints make this amateur painter look pretty good.

My once lovely solid mahogany door was faded, sad, and outdated. I wanted
an entry style I could love, was updated and said “Hello.” When I found the rugs at
, it was a no brainer! 😆

And, of course, there has to be plants. Plants are my signature and we love color.
We live in the PNW, so I chose ones that could last up to the first freeze.

So what do you think? Does the entry say “hello?” What do you like your entry to say?

Happy National Daughter’s Day to my daughter Rachel.
You have brought so much joy into my life.
I love how we play together, travel, work, and celebrate life.
From a little child to a young lady, you have always
drawn people to you with your exuberance, kindness,
and just being a blast to be around.

Have you ever taken a quiz to find your home style and discovered the quiz only offered five options? You didn’t relate to any of them? ☹️
I’ve done the same.
There are hundreds of design choices 😀but all personal styles fit somewhere between Traditional and Contemporary varieties.
Lifestyle can be identified
somewhere between Casual and Formal.
Shown on a matrix, the intersection of the two is your unique design style.✨

Do you want a home with Soul? Pinpoint your place on the matrix, design a haven with your unique style in mind, and enjoy your soulful home. 🎉

Arriving at a client’s home, she directed me into her empty living room. It was painted ivory with classic millwork and boasted a large bay window.

She said she had a few ideas of her own but didn’t want to influence me and asked how I would decorate the room.

For a moment I panicked, feeling put on the spot. Then reminding myself blank rooms don’t talk, we sat together and discussed a different approach.

A clearly defined lifestyle is your most influential tool to create an authentic and beautiful home design, whether it is a DIY project or you hire a professional.

You need a clear vision of:

1. The function and activities in the room
2. A vision of your style
3. A color palette you love 💕
4. The desired ambiance (sensory experience) 👐
5. How you want people using the space to relate to each other, for example watching TV or visiting.📺
6. How you entertain🎉

Those with a clear vision are always the happiest with their design transformation.
Do you have a clear vision of your home design?

Personal expression is today’s new fashion trend.

Purchasing new accessories is a quick way to update a home
and change your design with the season.
Yet, it is still fun to integrate personal items that tell your story.
They keep home unique and interesting and prevent it from looking like a store front.
And if you really want to stay on trend, personal expression is the new fashion today.

While furniture serves a functional need, the main purpose of accessories is to “make pretty.” Accessories finish the room and emphasize your style. It is where your personality can really shine.✨

I learned over the years that simply collecting things I love💕 isn’t enough to pull off styling a room. The elements need to be curated and fit together. Not everything I love fits in unison.
I may use several personal items to start with, but often shop
for missing pieces as I develop the style. This method keeps my home updated yet personal.

To style a room with personality I begin with the end in mind, asking myself:

“How do I want this room to feel (moody, happy, peaceful, etc.)?
Can I tell a story with this vignette?
What will it add to the room?
Will I enjoy it?”🥰

When all the accessories fit together, they really become one and together say more than each piece alone could speak.

What are some of you favorite personal accessory pieces?

I love a home with individual style that says something about it’s owners. It may be family beliefs displayed as wall art, musical instruments used in accessorizing, or a wall gallery of family history. In today’s world of “styling” a room for a photo shoot, personalized accessories are often removed so the audience relates to the photo. In real life, these expressions of our personal essence make design unique and personal. It is this type of design that connects us to home.

Flowers are my favorite home accessory. Nothing quite finishes a room like a few flowers or greenery. Accessories are the finishing touch to show off your personality and flowers are the finishing touch to accessorizing. I like adding flora and fauna for these reasons:

Flowers add an organic shape to a display, softening the look of other objects like books or objects de art. 🪴 🌸

Plants literally add life to a room. The presence of them is uplifting and has even been proven to improve our well-being.

They are perfect for adding a pop of color. 🎨

It seems whenever I am having trouble styling a coffee table, sofa table, or console, it all comes together when I add flowers.

But most of all, I 💕 love adding flowers because they are so intricately beautiful.

Occasionally have trouble styling a place in your home? A few flowers may be all you need!

What are some of you favorite styling tricks? I would love to hear from you.
