Whether its building from scratch or fixing something old I enjoy making things new. The focus of my business will be handyman type of repairs and home maintenance. I have a wide variety of talents that set me apart from other handymen. I have technical skills for repairing computers and troubleshooting networking equipment all the way to manual labor skills like repairing fences and installing s

prinkler systems. If your home or business is well maintained but you want to add some personal touches to make it yours, I can help. Pintrest and DIY websites are great for ideas but if you don't have the skills or tools to do the job yourself, I can do it for you. Maybe you have all the tools you need and the skill to do the job yourself but you just don't have the time or the energy to do it. Let me know. Did you just buy some Ikea furniture or a new outdoor playground and need it put together? Guess who love to build it for you. I take pride in working neatly and I am meticulous about the work I do. Go ahead, make a list of all the projects you left unfinished or can't get to. Give me a call or email me that list and lets started checking things of that list.

Summer is not over. It’s still hot and your lawn still needs water. It’s not too late to get your sprinklers working again.
Here is another sprinkler valve manifold that was not working correctly. The exterior siding sustained damage from years of leaking valves. After repairing the damaged siding I rebuilt the valves so that they simple and efficient. No more leaking and it looks much better now.
Let me know if your sprinklers are in need of some attention. We can discuss a solution to keep your grass green and valves working properly.

Freshening Up.
Fresh paint, new light fixtures, and towel bars went a long way to getting this bathroom up to date. This bathroom still had the original paint from the 70's still on the walls. The original antique gold towel bars and flower painted globes covering the light fixtures had to go. New brushed nickel fixtures and towel bars along with gray walls and white ceiling took this bathroom from faded yellow to a fresh clean look. A few drywall touch ups were needed as the original towel bars were starting to pull out of the wall. This was all done while the homeowners are on vacation. They knew I was there doing the work but don't get to see it until today. Maybe this post is the first time they see it.
Welcome home!

Floating Shelves
Well they are not really floating. They are anchored to three walls in this niche but they are built like floating shelves and you don't see any vertical support structure so I'm going to call them floating for now.
A customer had this niche that used to hold their tv and other entertainment devices. The tv has been relocated and now they were left with a open space without much practical use. They asked me to create some shelving to display books and decorations.
The shelves were built from 1/2" ply with a clear pine face. The plywood sandwiched some ripped 2"x4" to create a 3" thick shelf. I also mounted three of those ripped 2"x4" to the three walls to support the shelves. Three separate color stains were used to get these shelves to match the flooring. A finishing wax was also applied to the shelves to add some protection and make them buttery smooth.
The walls were really warped and I had to remove some material on the edges of the shelves to get them to fit the uneven walls. I knew this was going to be an issue when constructing the shelves so it wasn't a surprise this time. After trimming the shelves I slid them into place and then fit nice and snug.
Using a self leveling lase to set my anchor blocks allowed me to get the shelves perfectly level.
When doing the install I had the shelves laying on the ground in front of the cabinets. The customer couldn't wait to see the shelves in person as she had only seen pictures up to this point. She asked if I had brought them into the house yet and I pointed down to her feet. She didn't see them as they matched the wood floors so well and she was nearly standing on top of them.
Needless to say customer was very happy with the way the shelves turned out.

Barn door part 1.
To add some more farmhouse feel to my in-laws remodel I was asked to build a sliding barn door to close off a laundry room door. This barn door is one of the first things you see when entering the front door of the home. The pressure was on to get this one done right. I used blue stained tongue and groove pine to create the main door panel. Regular 1"x6" was used to frame the edges and some additional 1"x4" pine to create the X on the lower half of the door. The door was blued up and nailed from the backside so that no nail holes show on the front. I debated about showing nails as this would be fitting for a true "barn" door but decided against it as the shiplap wall next to this door was more modern and smooth. Stain samples were created so I could match the wood flooring that had already been put down. Over all there were two different colors of stain plus a finishing wax that was applied to this door. The pictures show the door unfinished and then finished under two different light sources. Light bulb color temperatures can really effect the way things look. I had a pretty good idea of what kind of bulbs would be used and I was happy with how the stain turned out.
Part 2 of this post will include details of the hardware, and finished pictures of the door in place.

Shiplap, shiplap, shiplap. That is all you hear about when watching most home improvement shows today. I had the opportunity to create a shiplap wall for my in-laws remodel. No there was not perfectly preserved shiplap hiding behind some obnoxious wallpaper like you see in the TV shows. This was just a bare sheetrock wall to start with. We chose to use engineered mdf shiplap boards to give the wall a very smooth seamless modern farmhouse look.
The wall turned out just as I had planned for. When opening the front door you are greeted by this shiplap wall and a barn door. Along with some farmhouse inspired lighting and wall hanging you wouldn't know you are not in Waco. Stay tuned for the barn door project and updated pictures.

On the left is a new drawer I built to replace a missing drawer in a customers workbench in his garage. On the right is a sample for me to duplicate. The customer has plans for me to paint the whole bench so it was left unfinished for now. This was one of those projects that just needed to get done. Meaning that it was not something the customer needed right away and it was not something that is used daily. Its just one drawer. Its not a glamorous kitchen or garage makeover. Its not exotic wood and did not require fancy tools to create it. However building this drawer was one of the best times I have had in my garage. It was a small project I could knock out in a night. It was made from scrap wood pieces so I didn't have to gather materials. My tools were more than capable. I didn't have to create from scratch, I just copied the other drawer. It was one of those projects where everything fell into place and worked. These kind of moments are rare for me in my handyman business. Most jobs I do I run into problems and have to create solutions on the fly. Rarely does a job come along where things just fit and work correctly without modification or compromise. This drawer project was a good reflection of life. There will always be difficulties in life and my work. Sometimes there will be situations or jobs that seem impossible. There will also be times when I get to build drawers.

Sprinkler valves are not pretty. They are plastic pipes that lay in the dirt and mud. They are often forgot about and not maintained until your grass or flowers show signs of not getting enough water.
This project was a little different in that the system watered the grass and flowers but also the driveway and side yard. The culprit was a broken and leaking shutoff valve. It was installed below the dirt line and buried. Years of moisture from the soil eroded the valve until is was so bad it started leaking and could not be shut off. Water had to be shut off to the house until I could replace the valve. This could have been avoided by installing a main shutoff valve for the hose spigot and an additional valve for the sprinkler system. Now the water can be shut off when performing maintenance or during the winter when sprinkler are not needed. In the end after the valves and new pipes were installed the valve "pit" was back filled with rock. This allows for protection of the pipes and allows for evaporation of any water that may leak or find its way into the hole. It also looks nice as well.
If this looks like something in your yard let me know and we can discuss giving your sprinkler valves a much needed makeover.
