Nestled in between two Kirkland parks, this is an original opportunity, one that took an amazing team to make this possible. Numerous developers tried as we were the ones to see this trough permits and permitting with the City of Kirkland which is known to be one of the most complex cities to navigate. Persistence made this happen. Creativity helped too. Yo think differently and out of the box. Some do DADU’s we do Complex new construction that most can’t do.

One of the most meaningful parts of the architectural profession is helping families rebuild homes that carry deep personal history—especially when those homes belong to parents who are almost at the end of their life and ones who have passed on to the next generation. Being able to bring my son along, to watch these homes rise again, and to support family and friends through the process makes the work even more rewarding. This particular home was almost entirely burned from within, with just enough remaining to give us a sense of what once was and what surrounded us.

In 1962, Milton Stricker was commissioned by the Mackey family to design the original home. Milton studied under Frank Lloyd Wright after nearly graduating from Carnegie Institute of Technology, and he went on to apprentice at Taliesin West, further shaping his architectural education and design sensibilities in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Today, the Mackey family—children of the original client—are leading the effort to rebuild their mother and father’s home. Mr. Mackey was an engineer and, together with his wife, raised four children who have been incredible to work with. From conception through construction, it has been a privilege to witness and participate in the careful rebuilding of this home and its legacy—together.

Before and After

This home was badly damaged by our “Bomb Cyclone” event. Numerous negotiations with the insurance carrier for the cost of rebuilding this home. This is the end result of our rehabilitation project. Rehab isn’t just for people. It’s for homes too. Why tear it down when you can reuse and rebuild it?

Sitting atop the Redondo Beach hills near the Pacific Ocean, this coastal ultra modern style home offers panoramic views from Palos Verdes to Malibu hills and beyond from the roof deck! Enjoy a morning coffee or cup of tea on multiple choices of patios on several levels and from the top roof deck, you can watch as dolphins play near the surf. Grill and dine and take a soothing spa, or sauna, and retire for sunset at your fire pit. Beautifully built in 2025, this 6 bedroom and 6 bathroom home has more than 5,000 sq. ft. of living space. As you walk through the front door, you are transported by light and space and with a sense of calm. Soaring ceilings and seamless Fleetwood doors blur the lines between inside and outside. The open floor plan includes kitchen, family room, and dining area with a courtyard view throughout. The gorgeous, cooks kitchen is complete with a 6-burner Miele stove, built-in Miele microwave and convection oven, wine cooler, and Liebherr refrigerator. The expansive kitchen counter is the perfect setting for a quiet breakfast or for entertaining a large party. The main floor has a junior adu studio unit and bathroom with shower. A short flight of stairs takes you to the upper level of the home, where you find the primary suite featuring stunning views and ensuite bathroom, separate bath, shower, and huge walk-in closet. Down the hall find three additional bedrooms with shared bathroom and an outdoor deck with access to an even larger roof deck and each level has elevator access.

Are you from the South but you now live in the North? Why not make your home in the Northern part of America feel like it’s from the Southern parts?

That’s what we did with this original beach house to the southern part of the Seward Park neighborhood. We love preserving and enhancing existing structures as we respect what’s been created in the past and it enhances the hike with history. Our clients are originally from Texas and Guatemala and we combined their memories of their past homes within this new design. We added more bedrooms as they needed three more bedrooms and one is a real Suite bedroom for the residents. Large Chef’s kitchen as the husband is always creating delicious meals and that’s his profession too. In the rear of this home there’s an existing Garage and we are proposing to remove the roof and adding an additional unit for the family or for short or long term renters.

This was a fun project with fun clients and we know we are blessed to be working with kindness and heart. When we put our minds together and leverage our hearts together we move mountains and this home is one. This home will be a reminder to respect the past and enhance with the future. One of the most rewarding parts of what we do is receiving an approval as we ask permission to build. Being granted these rights is apart of it and it takes time to make this happen and the fact is it builds exponential value when done right with the right design. This is a process in manifestation as we take something that could be torn down and renew it and create a second life.

When we do this for you, we give you the opportunity to connect with our trusted builders. It’s amazing to see this partnership of accomplishing and our team that has the accountability to get projects built.

Once the building permit is approved, as a reward, we create a vision of what your home can truly look like when completed.

It’s a process and it’s a rewarding one. We are making marks with each home that’s created and completed, to see it in your mind is the best step to see it in real life.
