*Misfits Market Review*

I’ve been seeing ads for Misfits Market all over Facebook and I finally gave in.

Misfits Market is a website where you can by produce rejects for a discounted rate. There is nothing wrong with them, they taste the same as the produce you buy at the store, except for the way they look. They might be to big or small, or a little ugly, so they are usually tossed aside to waste. Misfits Market is all about less waste ♻️, so they sell that produce for up to 40% off.

I usually shop at Walmart, but I wanted to see how much I’d save if I bought my produce from Misfits Market instead. 🤔 Here’s my experience.

Misfits Market has two box options:

“Mischief” = 12 types of produce, 1-2 portions per type, $22/box
“Madness” = 14 types of produce, 2-4 portions per type, $35/box

I decided to go with the Mischief box and got to select the 12 types of produce out of 20 or so types.

There was also an option to order pantry items like crackers, granola bars, chips, etc. for an additional cost, but I opted out of this to focus on just the produce.

What was really cool is I picked out some fruits and veggies that I don’t usually buy like pears, radishes, and squash. I like the idea of expanding my diet to include more healthy foods!

Here is what I received in my Mischief box (everything organic):

✅1 Bunch of Radishes
✅1 Acorn Squash
✅5 Limes
✅1 Yellow Onion
✅2 Yellow Potatoes
✅2 Red Potatoes
✅1 Butternut Squash
✅2 Fuji Apples
✅3 Bartlett Pears
✅3 Roma Tomatoes
✅1 Cucumber
✅1 Stalk of Celery

Everything arrived in good condition in a padded box with an ice pack. 📦 The box actually sat out on my doorstep for a few hours, but that had no visible affect on the quality of the produce. Everything tasted great and nothing looked weird!

The money breakdown 💲:

In comparison to the Mischief box, the Madness box has 2 more types of produce and double the number of portions for only $13 more (the price of the Mischief box, times 1.63). Simply put, you are getting more than double the amount of food in the Madness box than the Mischief box for only 63% more of the cost.

Misfits Market claims that their produce is up to 40% off regular store prices. I decided to put that to the test by pricing out what the total cost would be if I bought the same produce from Walmart.

If I bought the same produce, except not organic, the total cost comes to $14.57.

If I bought the same produce, mostly organic, the total cost comes to $19.08. Walmart did not have organic options for some of their produce.

Either way, it looks like Walmart is the cheaper option for what you get in the Mischief box. The Madness box is definitely more cost effective if you were to buy the same produce at Walmart. Let me show you.

Take $19.08 (the cost for the produce I received in my Mischief box, mostly organic, at Walmart) and multiply that by 2 (because the Madness box has double the number of portions than the Mischief box). That comes to $38.16.

The Madness box has 2 more types of produce than the Mischief box, so we need to find the percent increase of 14 from 12. Divide 14 by 12. That equals 1.167. That means that the Madness box has 16.7% more types of produce than the Mischief box.

Now multiply $38.16 by 1.167. That equals $44.53. This means that the total cost for the same produce in the Madness box, but purchased at Walmart, would be $44.53.

The bottom line:

It is less expensive to buy produce at Walmart, rather than order the Mischief box, by a little more than 13%. So, you’d actually save money by going to Walmart instead. 😕

However, it is more expensive at Walmart to buy the same amount of produce that comes in the Madness box by about 21%. So, you’d save about 21% by ordering the Madness box, from Misfits Market! 👏

Is Misfits Market true in their claim that their produce is up to 40% off of regular store prices?

Yes and no. Yes, if you buy the Madness box, and no if you buy the Mischief box (in relation to Walmart prices).

My overall thoughts:

What I like about Misfits Market is it provides a wide variety of produce types, and I picked some I would normally never buy at the store. It has made me eat healthier, and I have tried new recipes. I’ve also tried to incorporate more fruits and veggies into what I normally make, like sliced tomatoes on my grilled cheese sandwich.

I should mention that shipping costed $5.50. However, I feel like the saved shopping and driving time makes up for it. And I also really really don’t like grocery shopping, so I’m all for not having to go to the grocery store as often. 👍

All of the produce you get from Misfits Market is organic and fresh. I used Walmart as a comparison because I shop there the most, but their produce isn’t always fresh and tasty (that has to be why it’s so cheap, right?). Grocery stores like Albertsons and Broulim’s have better produce and more organic options, but at a higher price.

If I had a bigger family (it’s just my husband and I), I’d get the Madness box and it would be totally worth it.

Am I going to continue buying produce from Misfits Market?

It is a tough decision, but I’m leading more toward yes. Its promotion of healthy eating and convenience are what mainly tip the scale for me.

Are you going to try Misfits Market?

How To: Daily To-Do Lists (Part 1) 🗒

Organizing your day is just as important as organizing your space, so that’s why I’ve decided to share what I know about making daily to-do lists!

The purpose of to-do lists is to improve your productivity. They are also very motivating (if you use them in the right way) and crossing off tasks can be empowering.

Not everyone is in favor of making to-do lists, and that’s ok! I have always liked them, but I did not always know how to make a to-do list that works for me (not me working for it). Before I knew the right way to to-do lists, I would find myself in a rut at the end of the day feeling bad about myself because I did not accomplish much. It honestly was de-motivating, seeing a long list of things that needed to get done. You know when you have so much to do that it is too overwhelming, and then you just break down and don’t do any of it? Yeah, I’ve been there too. 😕

I recently took a class on writing to-do lists and I have picked up several useful tips to making successful to-do lists. Ever since then I can say, without a doubt, I love making to-do lists because they work for me!

I feel that one of the first things you should know about daily to-do lists is what to include, and what not to include. This will be enough to start you in the right direction.

✅ What tasks to include in a daily to-do list:

Include tasks that you don’t normally do every day and that you might forget if you don’t write them down. For example, going to an appointment, going grocery shopping, and paying bills.
Also, be specific. Instead of writing “pay bills”, write “pay phone bill” and “pay car insurance” on two separate lines.

There is not a certain limit of how many tasks can be on your daily to-do list. My rule of thumb is to keep it real. Consider how long it will take to complete the task, when it needs to be completed by (i.e. call the dentist’s office before they close at 5 pm), how much you think you’ll procrastinate (cause we all do), and how much time you want to spend relaxing or taking breaks. (I will be talking more about this in-depth in the next post)

❎ What NOT to include in a daily to-do list:

Do not include routine tasks on your to-do list. This includes “go to work” or “shower”. You go to work almost every day and you shower every day. If you are going to do it anyway and if it is something you are not going to forget, it should not be on your to-do list.

The reasoning behind this is it lessens the effectiveness of your to-do list, and it is less rewarding to complete. By writing routine tasks, your daily to-do list may become too long, busy, and “fluffy” (by writing routine tasks, you blur the line between the things that are important versus are not important. In the context of writing, if the author writes too much “fluff”, it means there is too much pointless or extra information surrounding the important information, muddying out what is useful for the reader to know). Overall, writing routine tasks on your to-do list will make is less meaningful to you. Write what you don’t normally do everyday and that you’d forget otherwise, instead.

Remember: You should not be at the mercy of your do-to list; it should be at the mercy of you. Be sure to be reasonable about how much you can accomplish in a day, and don’t kick yourself if you don’t complete every task. Focus on what you did do, not what you didn’t do. ❤️

My next post will be about listing tasks by importance, time sensitivity, and when to write your daily to-do list. I’m so excited about this!

- Emily ❤️

You can get these metal display easels at the Dollar Tree. They have many practical, everyday uses that are space-saving because they allow objects to be stored vertically. They are cute and surprisingly strong! Some ideas are...

frying pan storage
glass pan storage
cutting board storage
cookie sheet storage
muffin tin storage
textbook stand (a study solution for small desks)
cookbook stand
phone/tablet stand
mail holder

I have three glass pans set on one display easel as a cheap and effective alternative to buying pan racks online!
