Did you know that today, 5 years ago, we opened the doors to Be Home Decor for the very first time and had our first customer walk through the door? ❤️
Honestly, if it wasn’t for Facebook memories, we probably wouldn’t have remembered either. 😂 The last five years have absolutely flown by, and they have kept us BUSY.
In the last five years, we have learned more than we ever could have imagined. We have had some really challenging days, some “what in the world are we doing?” days, and some days that were more successful than we ever dreamed they would be.
We still remember the night before we opened when a family member asked us,
“What happens if this doesn’t work?”
Our response was simple:
“It will work. And if it doesn’t, we’ll adapt and find something—or a way—that does.”
And honestly, that mindset has carried us through the last five years.
We jumped headfirst into opening a storefront with absolutely no idea what we were doing and no real guidance on how to do it. We just knew we had a dream, we were passionate about it, and we were willing to figure it out along the way.
And figure it out along the way we definitely did. 😂
The last five years have not always been easy. There have been days when we have questioned why we ever opened a storefront because of how much time it takes away from our families. There have been huge challenges—one of the biggest being losing our page and having to completely start over from zero.
There have been long nights, early mornings, mistakes, changes, stressful weeks, and plenty of times we have had to adapt.
And somehow, through all of that, we have also continued running Be Home Decor while both working full-time jobs—Brooklyn as a teacher and Erica in an agronomy office.
Sometimes we genuinely wonder how we fit it all in. 😂
But the truth is, we love this little business.
We love coming up with new ideas. We love seeing familiar faces walk through the door. We love when someone comes in just to grab a new top or a candle and ends up visiting with us for a while. We love seeing something we created or brought into the store suddenly take off because all of YOU loved it.
We love the days an item goes viral because you shared it.
We love watching our orders pile up because you continue choosing our small business.
But some of the moments that mean the most are the ones where this business allows us to help someone else.
Getting to help a family with a fundraiser during one of the hardest times of their lives. Being able to donate to local organizations, schools, teams, benefits and community events. Watching something we created bring people together.
Those are the moments that remind us this has always been about so much more than selling clothes, candles or home decor.
The good days have far outweighed the hard ones, and our customers are 100% the reason for that.
So today, on our 5-year anniversary, there is really only one thing we can say:
Thank you.
Thank you for walking through our doors.
Thank you for placing orders.
Thank you for sharing our posts.
Thank you for telling your friends about us.
Thank you for being patient with us when we make mistakes.
Thank you for supporting us through every change, every crazy idea and every season of this business.
Thank you for allowing two girls who really didn’t know what they were doing five years ago to turn a little dream into something that has become such a huge part of our lives.
And if there is one thing we hope someone takes away from our story, it is this:
If you have a dream, it is okay to take the first step.
It is okay to be uncomfortable.
It is okay to try something without knowing exactly how it is going to turn out.
Maybe it works.
Maybe it doesn’t.
Maybe you have to change your plan.
Maybe something that worked for years suddenly doesn’t anymore and you have to adapt.
Maybe you need to pause, take a break, regroup and start again when the time is right.
None of that means you failed.
It simply means you are figuring it out along the way—just like we have been for the last five years.
But whatever you decide to do, do it with your whole heart.
Do it because you are passionate about it.
Take the chance.
Try the thing.
And don’t spend your life wondering what might have happened if you had.
Five years ago, we opened the doors with a dream, a whole lot of determination and absolutely no idea where it would take us.
Five years later, we are still here.
Still learning.
Still adapting.
Still creating.
Still dreaming.
Still incredibly grateful.
And most importantly, still excited about what comes next. ❤️
Here’s to 5 years of Be Home Decor and to everyone who helped make those five years possible.
We truly couldn’t have done it without you.
And for those of you who actually made it all the way to the end of this very long post… we have a little something fun for you. 👀❤️
Tell us in the comments one thing you have bought from us, received from us, or simply loved from Be Home Decor over the last five years. Maybe it was a shirt you still wear, a candle you loved, a gift, a custom order, something for your home, or even a fundraiser or special project we helped with.
Everyone who comments will have their name thrown in for something pretty cool. 😉 We’ll keep the details a surprise for now!
While we won’t be having a huge celebration specifically for our 5-year anniversary, the best way you can celebrate with us is by continuing to support our little store.
We would absolutely love to see you during our Open House Weekend at the end of the month. Come shop with us, bring a friend, check out what’s new, and most importantly—shop local and support the small businesses in our community.
Because every time you choose to shop small, it means more than you probably realize.
Five years later, we are still here because of all of you. ❤️
❤️ Brooklyn & Erica
