Moulton Hot Natives

Moulton Hot Natives Hyper local sustainability sourced from wild populations. Located in Northside, RVA This is the good stuff!
(1)

We supply straight-species native plants with genetics of local provenance to the Mid-Atlantic – best bests for attracting butterflies, moths, bees, other beneficial insects, and songbirds. We do not use neonicotinoids in any form. All plants are seed-grown and we strongly discourage the practice of poaching of native wildflowers.

Worried about nurturing your lil friend?
Regardless of the time of the year, we recommend folks to follow the 2-2-2 rule when watering newly established plants.

2️⃣Water twice a week for the first two weeks after planting
2️⃣Water to a depth of 2 inches, this will help make deep deep roots that will help you plants survive the heat of summer
2️⃣Then for the next two months after planting, keep an eye out for signs of water stress during periods of extreme heat 🥵 If you're thirsty, they might be thirsty too 💦 Give them a nice deep sprinkle

Do you dream of a RVA native lawn?
WELL let me introduce you to my little friend, poverty oats ( ) aka p**e grass!

🌾This tough native grass is a great replacement option for turfgrass & might already be in your yard! Poverty Oats are a clump forming, perennial cool season grass with twisted wiry foliage. It makes for a great choice for replacing non-native turfgrasses because it stays low in height, thrives in poor, rocky, thin, shallow, or compacted soil. It is highly drought tolerant and can grow in shade right up to a tree trunk. It also is awesome at erosion control with its vigorous fibrous roots and expands slowly from short rhizomes. Plan to space these guys 18-24 inches apart.

We personally love its little curly Q’s in the winter months 😍 Did you also know it’s a host plant to the
Indian Skipper? 🦋Your lawn could be doing so much more!

Currently available in 4 in pots for $8.

Baby plants do-do-do! 🦈 🌱 Baby plants do-do-do! 🦈 🌱 Baby native plants! 🦈 🌱

Did you know we have over 30 species of local ecotype Richmond plants for sale under $10?

Planting small might intimidate some folks, but the benefits definitely outweigh the risks of planting root bound stock 😉

🌱 When roots run out of space, they stop growing, causing stunted growth
🌱 Smaller potted material, once planted in their forever home, are able to devote energy to vigorous, uninhibited growth, often reaching full maturity before root bound stock
🌱 Root bound material exhibiting “circling” which effectively is the plant strangling themselves, starving the plant of nutrients and oxygen

Worried about nurturing your lil friend?
💦 Regardless of the time of the year, we recommend folks to follow the 2-2-2 rule when watering newly established plants.

2️⃣ Water to a depth of 2 inches, this will help make deep deep roots that will help you plants survive the heat of summer 🌞
2️⃣ then for the next two months after planting, keep an eye out for signs of water stress during periods of extreme heat 🥵
