Backyard Frog Pond! This was an installation we did last year. Wonderful plant life, logs and stones create a nice habitat for amphibians. Lots of frogs have already moved in!

We finished up the frame work for this front yard today. The homeowners will have a totally edible landscape that they are going to plant themselves. We’ve given them the outlines with the paths. Lots of fruit trees, berry bushes and custom cedar raised beds for veggies that we built! We created paths throughout the space and installed a pondless water feature for the birds and pollinators. Outside of the fence along the street, we cleared the grass and planted 350 native perennials. Lots of good stuff going into this space!

12 days and 2 very strong ladies. We transformed this once steeply sloped back yard into a magical place to hang out. It was full of huge non native buses, vines and weeds. We cleared those out and tiered the space with 4 timber retaining walls. The bottom section now has a bluestone patio with fire pit. The middle section is now a play space for the kids. The top tier is full of native trees and shade perennials. They had some really cool pieces of old wood we used as art in the beds. They also had 2 wooden slabs we used as benches. Now, the plants just need a little time to grow and fill in!

We completed a frog pond 🐸 and small dry stack wall installation today. Creating a small frog pond will provide crucial habitat for amphibians that is lacking in landscapes today due to building and land clearing. It’ll be a place for shelter, food and reproduction. Just one frog can eat thousands of mosquitoes! So many benefits to these little ponds!

This backyard was a blank slate. We packed it full of native plants and created a stone dust path to add some curves through the space. Lucy, the husky, was great help. She especially loved the mulch pile! Check out the before pic at the end!

A little upgrade to the mailbox bed. We created a small wall to level out the area in front of the address sign. I think we will end up planting Sedum ternatum there. Round stone was added and the bed size was increased. We planted some great woodland natives. Christmas ferns, white tinged sedge, white wood aster, woodland phlox, woodland stonecrop and blue stemmed goldenrod. It will look lush when it fills in!

This is a VCAP project we just wrapped up for and it was a tough one! The slope was very steep and it was severely over grown with wisteria, ivy, privet and loads of tall weeds. Once we got the hill cleared it turned into a slippery muddy mess. All the rain made it impossible to stand on the slope. It was a slip and slide! We had one night where it didn’t rain so we were able to get the jute and mulch down the following day. About 550 native plants were planted on the hillside. A good mix of native perennials, lots of little bluestem, 2 Serviceberries, chokeberries, viburnums, sweetspire and so on. I can’t wait to see this hillside next year!

Stopped by to see the progress of an area we planted with plugs off of the Swift Creek Reservoir a few years ago. This area used to be bare and it would flood regularly. Now It’s full of life! Loads of insects fluttering around.

I drove past a house we did summer ‘24 and it’s looking good! A lot of growth happens in a year. Especially with native grasses and perennials. We did keep the front of the house clean with a mix of stone, a few native grasses and custom address signs. On the foundation and edges of the front lawn we really let the perennials fill in to create a great pollinator space. Happy insects! They need all the habitat they can get.
