The Sort Report: Coming to the end

Hello everyone, this will be one of my last posts for Okinawa, but I wanted to share a solution for a common dilemma that I’ve noticed while here - deep pantry shelves

For this client, I used an inexpensive basket to get some extra height to the spice shelves. This allowed my client full use of the shelf and made all of the individual bottles visible and easily accessible.

I also made sure to keep all like items together including extra/back stock items. That way, whenever an item needs to be replenished, the extra items are visible and readily available.

Also to add, I will not be leaving Okinawa without an organizer. I’ve spoken with Kailah Bannis and she would be happy to help anyone needing assistance with organization. She does not have a professional page, but you can send her a message through her personal profile. Happy organizing everyone 🤗

⚠️ PCS Update ⚠️

Hello Everyone,

We will be PCSing back to the states this May. 😳

To give me time to prepare and take some classes before our move, I will not be taking anymore new clients for Okinawa.

The Sort Report: Sort the Storage before the Stuff

This past year in Okinawa has taught me that the number one organizing dilemma is moving into a much smaller home and not knowing where to start. Often people will contact me saying they need help organizing their belongings because they don’t have any space for them. Well, that’s when we start by organizing the “storage” and then work on organizing the “stuff”

One of my projects last week was a dual purpose room for crafts and toys. My client already had some really good organizing solutions, she just needed some help getting started. So, we started with the closet and upper cabinets since that was our biggest source of storage. We then moved through the rest of the room by sections. By the time we had worked our way over to the toys, we knew that we could easily fit most of them in the closet. 🙂

The Sort Report: Categorized and Minimized

This project was from about a week ago. I worked with Client V to clear the clutter from the floor and gain better access to both cabinets. We also added a couple storage solutions to store less commonly used items in their respective categories, and made sure to keep every day items easily visible and accessible.

The Sort Report: 2 for 1

This past week, I worked with client M. M has some impressive couponing skills, however due to rearranging rooms in her home, she was unable to access the items from her hard work. We worked through all of the “miscellaneous” bags and also put together a shelf instead of the closed cabinet so everything can be easily identified and accessed.

I’m also posting pictures from September when we worked on organizing the items in her kitchen. We sorted through a junk drawer and worked on grouping the rest of the items into categories.

The Sort Report: It’s been a minute

Hi everyone, I know it’s been awhile since I last made a post but it’s because I have been extremely busy with organizing!

I do want to take a moment to say thank you to all my wonderful clients for being so patient with our back to school COVID delays. I truly appreciate everyone who welcomes me into their homes and I always strive to help reduce stress and bring a sense of peace, as well as organization to your homes.

I still have a lot of projects to post but I wanted to start with this pantry upgrade from earlier today. Client “A” was looking for more functionality with her two pantries and also wanted to create more floor space for a future appliance purchase. We made good use of some spice steps for visibility, a shelf & can organizer to better utilize the vertical space, and also worked on relocating items so everything was grouped with their respective categories.

The Sort Report: Back to school, back to school….

This past week I worked on a playroom/school room. We made sure to keep all of the safe and educational toys accessible, while keeping the messier items, i.e. glue, glitter, up high and out of harms way. We also worked on a lot of decluttering to create a calm and productive learning environment. ☺️

The Sort Report: Multipurpose Room Update

This past week I worked with Client “J”. We organized the storage area in her home which included the pantry, outdoor items, and tools. The key here was to establish zones for the various categories and LOTS of labels.

The Sort Report: The Ten Second Tidy

Ok, so this project took longer than 10 seconds, but it was my fastest project yet.

Client “J” and family got a head start before I arrived because we were dealing with a tight timeline. However, I think this is a fantastic example of how organizing a space doesn’t have to be a long process. You can start with a small manageable space and slowly branch out to other areas of your home.

The Sort Report: Clutter and Cortisol

Did you know that clutter in your home actually increases the stress in your life?

Earlier this week I worked with Client “M” to clear out the clutter from a spare bedroom. She did an absolutely fantastic job in letting go of several items, which then allowed us to establish proper homes for the important things.

“Clutter can cause our bodies to release cortisol, the stress hormone associated with the fight-or-flight response. Long-term exposure to clutter can induce chronic stress, and clutter seems to stress out mothers even more, according to a 2009 study. Another study in 2010 showed that wives stress over clutter far more than husbands.”

The Sort Report: Mission Accomplished

I had an absolute blast working on this kitchen with Client “C”. Unfortunately with all the fun, I forgot to grab a bunch of the before and after pictures…. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Client C’s top goals were to limit visibility of the pantry items and to organize her pans & lids. We were able to accomplish both of those goals and more. 🥳
