Amsonia blue star is one of my favorite natives I planted probably 10-12 years ago. It continues to spread and produce seeds. Fall color is amazing, too.

I have been very busy working with “Petersburg is Growing” for about 2 years,
As a volunteer and now a board member.

I’m nicknamed Farmer Larry and together with Farmer James, we are seeding a long bank on the front side of Petersburg Oasis Youth Farm with native pollinators. I will share the list in a future post.

Wild, wild blackberries picked at Petersburg Oasis Youth Farm. 5 acres of land purchased with help from the Agrarian Trust for BIPOC farmers to use to start their farm businesses. We educate youth in our part of it!

These native viburnum dentatum have really taken off. They make a great shrub against a backyard fence. Thanks to Beth Farmer for selling them to me many years ago! Birds love the drupes, too.

225 Osmunda spectabilis (royal fern) repotted at our greenhouse!

Fern propagation takes a lloooonnngggg time. It can take a year or more from when we sow the spores to when they are ready to leave the Wild Plant Nursery.

We start the spores in aluminum roasting trays, then transfer the baby ferns to propagation trays, then size up quart pots, and then for some species, they'll need one more size up to gallon pots before they're ready to go out.
