For rain catchment on my greenhouse, I found 1/2" flexible water supply tubing fits snugly on the gutter downspout. This was $1.19/ft. at our local TN Farmer's Co-op. All the rainwater I missed for less than a $9 purchase!

Spring in middle Tennessee has gotten off to a great start! I recently covered the south side of the greenhouse with a shade sail. It is not so pretty, but, it is doing the job. I removed the vent window and door altogether. The arbor and haybale gardens are planted with vegetables and melons. The strawberries are bearing well, and the blueberry bushes are loaded with tiny green berries. Spinach, kale, lettuces, (and parsley, cilantro and garlic, due to length of shade cloth) enjoying the weather and are good eating.

Our polycarbonate greenhouse [kit] has stood against gusting east/west winds for 5 months. First, we chose a wind-blocked area, and screwed the frame into a 4x4 base, not using the metal base on legs provided. I then put backer rod, foam tubes, between the frame and clear panels, from the inside. I used silicone in the larger seams and cracks, mostly to help with heat loss in the winter. HAHA. We used tap-in screws in all the panels, above what was provided in the kit, and at T joints. The vent window, whether open or closed, is secured with a bungee cord to the 2x2 framed wire shelf. [Otherwise, it will blow off, I learned by experience there.] Recently, we put lock nuts on the upper wall bolts, which loosen quickly with vibration. If I do any more stability tasks, I might have wished we built an interior frame. The sliding door may be addressed in the future with piano hinges.

What perennial would go best in these baskets? I was thinking overhanging the edge. I am not opposed to edibles.

[Update: These 3 hanging baskets have sugar snap sweet peas (with dwarf marigolds in the center) and the planters have broccoli and cauliflower under milk jugs covers.

Lettuce, spinach, arugula, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, garden cress, bok choy, broccoli, brussels sprouts, mustard, carrots, beets, radishes, onions, legumes (peas, beans) and tuber crops (potatoes) do not require bees to produce an edible harvest. -Online source.

My Winter Greenhouse: [As discussed by trusted source, Edward Jones, TNGardenGuy]:

MY QUERY:
"No reason not to trust the hygrometer I placed under 3 layers of cold-frame tenting for spinach and toy choy, but the 24-hour low/high reading [at that time] was 24F/67F at about 1:30 pm today. This is with the outside temp of -4F to -11F this morning at 6:30 am. Could it be that other things contributed to that result? (6x8 foot, polycarbonate greenhouse, hardly winterized, but with south-facing, black-sided planters, filled with 6 inches of dirt over 3/4 full of hay and grass composting, with a concrete step stone aisle) or a faulty reading?
HIS REPLY: The more mass inside the more heat will be retained. I’d say it’s probably accurate. If the compost is active, then that adds heat as well, some fully heat their greenhouses with compost.

My "Cold Frame Tenting" Explained: These layers protected sparse young spinach and a good stand of toy choy. Overkill, maybe, but, I will have a fresh, home-grown salad soon! Captions under each photo. See also the post "My Winter Greenhouse".
