Here's a panel I swapped out earlier this week. I'm putting this picture up more as a public service announcement then a reason to show off my work. The old panel pictured on the top is a Federal Pacific electrical panel. This company went out of business in 1990 with a good reason. In 1982 the supreme Court took Federal Pacific to court after realizing that this company knowingly sold faulty breakers. 1 out of 4 is actually faulty to be exact. Meaning that if a surge of electricity passed through the line that exceeded the amount of amperage rated for the breaker it would not trip like it's supposed to. Over time and reoccurring electrical surges on the line, your electrical wire will actually begin to cook itself and will eventually cause an ark leading to a fire. These panels are a ticking time bomb. By 1988 they attempted to initiate a recall but couldn't because of how many breakers and panels were actually sold. If you have this panel in your home be warned it is not an "if" it is a "when" will my house catch on fire. I highly encourage you to call me or any reliable electrician to have this swapped out immediately for a properly rated electrical panel.
