Lawnmowers and weedwackers are one of the leading causes of death for a young pawpaw tree. Husbands, dads, and helpful neighbors while you are on vacation like to put on headphones playing some aggressive tunes and drive over everything without a care in the world. Having protection around your plantings can help but they still might drive over a row of stakes and cages and just think the sound is part of the song they are listening to. Husbands seem to be the leaders in pawpaw slaying and if this happens to you it is recommended that you find a new husband. The pawpaw trees are unable to flee so do what you have to do to keep them safe!

Papa Pawpaw's Plants was threatened with a boycott for not being sufficiently worshipful of Dear Leader. This resulted in a significant increase in followers of this page and I can only assume more customers. If there is anything I can do to help organize or support any MAGA boycotts of my small business I'd love to help!

I'm going to put some images in the comments of how the boycott went so you will want to select "all comments" to see them all. If any MAGA read this post and get pi**ed off you could always go to my personal page Chris Rice and go through my photos and try to find something that you think will embarrass me and post it here like we have come to expect. I love that sheet!

Papa Pawpaw's Plants is sold out of everything for 2026 except 6 American persimmon and 30 hybrid hazelnut plants. I'm all out of pawpaw, currants, and juneberries. The grafted American persimmon varieties I still have are Ami, Ennis, and Knightsville and are $25 each. The hybrid hazelnuts are 5 for $35. These are smaller plants than most that are already sold because the largest plants go first.

I have 20 pawpaw trees that should fruit this year and expect to start small late summer with my Pawpaw U-Pick-Em-Up operation that should get larger every year as more of the trees here come into bearing age and the trees bearing now mature.

Everything sells out quickly every year and when I try to express that it isn't just some sales tactic and I even turn down sales where people want to come before I have open hours and buy everything because I want everyone to have a chance as long as they get here before they sell out. Sorry to anyone who missed out. It takes multiple years to have a grafted tree ready for sale and I can't just go in the back and make another one for you. Thank you and please don't start texting me as I am grafting trees 10-16 hours a day for sake next year as well as all the other many springtime chores here.

Papa Pawpaw's Plants is in Rock Island, Illinois and this may be the final open hours for sales - to be determined if I sell out. I am down to only 11 various grafted superior varieties of pawpaw but still have a lot of the 42 grafted superior varieties of persimmon, about 50 Hybrid Hazelnuts, some Black Currants, some Honeywood Juneberries, and one Seedless Che.

Pawpaws sell out quickly and the 11 that are left are the smallest that I started with. It goes like that with plants in high demand. I'm sorry if someone misses out on pawpaw and I wouldn't make a long drive if that is only what you were wanting. There is still a wide variety of American persimmon but as these things go I would show up earlier than later because when they are gone there won't be any more until next year. It takes multiple years for these to be propagated and I'm very busy working 16 hours a day grafting next years trees and starting and tending the plants I will be grafting in the next few years. I can't just go in the back and make another one when they sell out.

These are the varieties of potted American Persimmon I'll have available in May of 2026 for $25 each. They were all grafted in the Spring of 2025 and I only make them available a year after grafting. I'm located in Rock Island, Illinois and I only do in person sales. If you live withing driving distance of the Quad Cities you are lucky to have access to the largest selection of grafted superior varieties of American persimmon and pawpaw for the lowest price anywhere on the planet.

Why grafted American persimmons? Because seedling American persimmons will be up to 80% male and can't bear fruit and if a tree is female it will still require a male so you have to have a bunch of them just to have great odds of ever seeing a single fruit. These grafted trees are all self fertile female trees that can bear fruit with just one tree and you are getting the best selections from several different breeding programs that started with collecting the best genetics at the time and doing thousands of controlled crosses and selecting a handful that had superior qualities and this is the result.
