🐞🌱 Garden Friends at Work! 🌱🐞

While checking the crops today, I found a tiny praying mantis in the garden! These beneficial insects help protect plants by feeding on pests like aphids, caterpillars, and other bugs that can damage crops.

Not every insect is a bad one. Praying mantises, ladybugs, lacewings, and pollinators all help keep the garden healthy and productive.

Every beneficial insect is another member of the One Marine Market Garden team! 🇺🇸🌿

What a difference a week and a good rain make! The garden is thriving and growing fast. We have fresh greens available now, and zucchini coming soon along with other summer favorites.

What’s the difference between bush beans and pole beans? 🌱

Bush beans grow compact and usually don’t need a trellis, making them simple to grow and great for quick harvests. They tend to produce heavily over a shorter period.

Pole beans grow vertically and need support like trellis netting or cattle panels. They take more setup but continue producing over a longer season while maximizing growing space.

This year at One Marine Market Garden we’re growing Lima bush beans, green bush beans, Kentucky Wonder pole beans, and sweet peas for a mix of quick harvests and continuous production.

🌱 Upcoming Week at One Marine Market Garden 🌱

This week we’ll be focused on planting, trellis building, irrigation setup, and staying ahead of the weeds as the garden continues coming together for the season.

We recently got our Sugar Baby watermelons, sweet peas, bush beans, Kentucky Wonder pole beans, and multiple squash varieties planted in the ground and are excited to watch everything take off over the next few weeks. We’ll also be doing succession planting to help keep harvests coming throughout the season.

We appreciate everyone following along and supporting our small veteran-owned market garden here in the Quad Cities area.

🥗 Roasted Radishes — Simple, Fresh, and Delicious

If you’ve never tried roasted radishes, you’re missing out. Roasting takes away the sharp bite and gives them a mild, slightly sweet flavor similar to roasted potatoes.

Fresh from the garden and perfect as a side dish.

Simple Roasted Radish Recipe

Ingredients:
• 1 bunch fresh radishes
• Olive oil
• Salt
• Black pepper
• Garlic powder (optional)

Directions:
1. Wash and trim radishes
2. Cut in half
3. Toss with olive oil and seasonings
4. Roast at 425° for 20–25 minutes
5. Serve warm
