The Tale of "Jove's Fire".
We have had alot of people ask about the origins of our cut of Jove's Fire so I thought I would tell the tale of how we wound up breeding with the beautiful cultivar known as Jove's Fire.
At an event we were vending , Jimmy Mead gifted us a couple packs of beans. Pop those and check em out. There is some Fire in there. We'll we get gifted seeds quite often (The Breeding scene is a very helpful and giving scene in alot of ways) so we added them to our "someday" collection. Seeds we will eventually, someday , get to.
Well fast forward to our next event that year - we run into Jimmy and he asks "Have you popped those seeds yet?" To which I had to respond "Not yet , they are in the collection tho" .
Well he responds by handing us a couple more packs and says again "There's Fire in there, something special". What's the name? "Jove's Fire" he replies. Greenwolfs Thornado x Tiki Madman's Sour Tropical Zkittles.
Well we have limited space and like 20 projects going but Al says "I think we should pop those asap. Push something back. " So push something back we did, knowing that if it was all just average mids , 6-9 months would be wasted by a small team that doesn't have unlimited space to waste. It was a roll of the dice we were gonna take.
Well we popped 50 reg seeds, wound up with 29 females. Out of the 29 we had 9 (I believe) that showed a change in color as it ripened. All started out a fairly deep green then about week 5 - the ones that faded color started working thier magic .
Jimmy was right - there was alot of fire. But the one that stood out to us was one that definitely fit the name "Jove's Fire" as it faded to a nice red/pink/purple. The frost is great on this girl and the fade just really makes the frost bling. For me, an almost sour grapefruit dominates the inhale with hints of topical fruit on the exhale. A really good hybrid smoke. Maybe a slight indica leaner. Tasty and strong.
Right away we knew we were gonna do something with this one.
Jimmy Mead knocked it out of the park with the Jove's Fire. It will forever have a home in the Jove's Fire line, I am sure. We are currently whittling it down to the 3ish Jove's Fire crosses that will make a permanent stay on the menu. It has been so hard because the Jove's Fire crosses so well.
The Jove's Fire that we breed with is:
A 60/40 hybrid.
A 9 week flowering (can be taken at 8)
Fades from green to red/purple
Smells of sour grapefruit, hints tropical fruit, and a dash of gas.
I want to reiterate- Jove's Fire is a Jimmy Mead creation.
We were just blessed to be able to cross it into some of the strains we already have in our collection. And the crosses have been great so far. Some of the crosses have been nothing short of spectacular. If you haven't tried a joves fire cross - you really need to.
Below is a reversed Jove's Fire about 2.5 weeks apart .
