You've just gotten out of college, and you have a degree under your belt. You figure you know just about everything you need for your new job in architecture. But do you?

In this episode, Ron discusses with Margaret how much he has learned from tradespeople (painters, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, etc.), and how just because you have it drawn in your plans a certain way, it might not be the best course, or even the efficient way to do it. In the same way, Ron also discusses when to stand your ground when changes are requested. But one thing is certain: it's a learning and collaborative experience that never ends - if you let it.

You know we had to jump in this trend! Although Revit, our drawing software, looks a lot different than this, we can always imagine it with a little extra 1919 Architects flair!

Have to or want to? Zach and Margaret discuss why someone might want to or have to pursue LEED certification for their building!

This video might be a joke, but we take site visits and construction administration seriously! Taking photos then helps us generate field reports, which allow for a record of what has been completed on the project, what’s next, work conditions, and more.

Let's address another architecture myth

ARCHITECTS only design buildings

This is way off.

REALITY:
Architecture overlaps with urban planning, interiors, sustainability, even psychology.

Let's take a look at our Memory Care Addition in Geneseo as an example. At a memory care facility, the end user determines many of the final materials.

carpet - mostly a single color - dark colors can be perceived as a hole
calming colors - wall paint is often neutral to promote more peace of mind
railings - essential for residents who walk through the building

With an architects' expertise, the end user's needs can be factored into the final design, and curated specifically to best serve them.
