I wish I could give more than 5 stars because California Carpets & Design Center in Rocklin truly went above and beyond for us. From start to finish, this was hands-down the best home-improvement experience we’ve ever had.

Our house was built in 1977 and still had the original carpets (yes, the same shag-tastic, 40+ year-old carpets the previous owner installed in the early 80s). It was desperately dated and in need of a total refresh.

As we moved to the area from out of town, we didn’t know anyone in the local flooring industry. All we knew was that we needed our floors completely replaced. California Carpets came recommended and using them was one of the best decisions we made. The owner personally spent hours with us, patiently showing options, explaining the pros and cons of different materials, helping us choose colors that would complement our new paint, and ultimately helping us find a gorgeous, high-quality laminate that looks like real hardwood but was surprisingly affordable. No pressure, no upselling… just honest, expert guidance.

The installation crew was phenomenal: professional, meticulous, and genuinely careful in our home. They treated it like it was their own house.

When everything was done, the transformation was jaw-dropping—our 1977 time capsule now feels modern, bright, and completely updated.

A few very minor things came up after installation (nothing major, just tiny tweaks you only notice once you live with it), and when I called, they were back out within days—no hassle, no extra charge, and zero attitude.

They genuinely wanted us to be 100% thrilled, and now we are.

New Install of Luxury Vinyl Plank in Sun City Roseville! Install was facilitated prior to move in for a fresh new look. Removal of old carpet and vinyl and well done floor prep.

What is Floor Preparation?

Floor prep is generally to prepare the floor to receive the chosen flooring material to be fitted by the flooring installer. Standard floor prep is taken to mean cleaning the concrete surface before laying the new flooring material. Cleaning the concrete surface would include the removal of any contaminants, adhesives, dust, debris, or curing compounds. This floor prep could also include patching holes and leveling.

But what if the concrete surface needs more than just superficial preparation, and there are major repairs to be carried out, including grinding and overall leveling? Finishing and preparing the substrate becomes important because if the substrate is not correctly completed, there will be problems during the installation period, and beyond. The result can be recurring problems with the flooring going forward such as lifting or cracking.
