Juliette's Home & Garden

Juliette's Home & Garden I research and cultivate organic flowers, vegetables and herbs that flourish in the southeastern climate on my garden in Wadmalaw Island, SC.

I grew up in the city so my venture into gardening didn’t take place until after I was married. Living in upstate New York, we ventured into homesteading with some chickens, cows, pigs and a quarter acre vegetable garden. By combining my harvest with that of the neighboring farmers, I was able to preserve, can or freeze all of our food for an entire year. I made everything except toilet paper and

paper towels. We had to be frugal in those days and I learned a lot about making due with what you have which included sewing our clothes and making homemade gifts during the holidays. Those days of making whatever I could have stayed with me to this day. From sewing to crafting to cooking... I love creating in just about any medium. Currently, I’m focused on researching and cultivating organic flowers, vegetables and herbs that flourish in the southeastern climate on my micro farm in Wadmalaw Island, SC.

The scented camellia is loaded with buds this year. We moved it last year and it seems to enjoy its new location.

Fermented garlic honey, has to sit for a month. Can be used in glazes and recipes, and eaten plain to help with colds and sore throats. The honey will become thinner as it ages.

Sometimes, during the fermentation process, the mixture will rise and overflow the jar so that’s why they’re sitting in plastic containers. The jars need to be “burped” every day to release the build up of gases.

I excited about my gold potatoes that are “chitting” on the kitchen counter. These are not regulation seed potatoes, just regular organic potatoes from the grocery store. I figure if they’re good enough to eat, they’re good enough to grow. And cheaper. 😀

Those little packages are coming in the mail and it’s time to get the seeds organized and get excited for a new year of planting!

The seeds in colored plastic containers are from last year. The seeds in front are new for 2024 .

Found a rusty half shovel at the dump that still has some life left. Cleaned it up on the wire wheel, sanded the wood, applied some boiled linseed oil and gave it a coat of yellow paint so it can easily be found in the garden.

The cold water shut off valve into the hot water heater developed a leak. Pulled out the PEX B tools and swapped out a new ball valve.

Took more time emptying and removing the wire shelves in order to gain access than it did to actually do the work. 😀

Happy New Year, again!! 🤣Reposting this, since my last post seems to be “not quite right”.

Went looking for “Brandy Boy” tomato seeds by Burpee which the Home Depot web site said they had but they did not.

But I came across these two which I have been waiting to find there for years!
