I was out here really thinking I was the next HGTV superstar—flipping houses, making bold moves, walking into rooms like, “Yeah, I do this.”

Everything was going smooth. Demo? Easy. Paint? Clean. Confidence? Through the roof… for absolutely no reason.

Then I got to the kitchen.

Now in my mind, taking down an upper cabinet was going to be light work. A couple screws, a little lift, done in five minutes. Didn’t need help. Didn’t need a plan. I was the plan.

So I climb up on a ladder, feeling professional… balanced… skilled.

Meanwhile, that cabinet is up there like, “Oh, you think this is your show?”

Next thing I know, that thing didn’t just come loose—it launched a full attack. It came down like it had been waiting all day for this moment… and took me with it.

I didn’t fall off the ladder—I got thrown off the ladder.

Straight onto a concrete floor.

No slow-motion. No graceful recovery. Just immediate, “Well… this is bad.”

And my femur? It said, “I’m not built for this level of drama,” and snapped like it was trying to end the episode early.

So instead of finishing a kitchen demo, I’m laid out on concrete, staring at the ceiling, realizing I just turned a flip project into a full-blown medical event.

Went from “Let’s knock out these cabinets” to “Let’s call an ambulance.”

The house wasn’t the only thing getting remodeled that day—apparently my leg needed a complete redesign too.

Moral of the story: if you’re on a ladder fighting an upper cabinet over concrete… the cabinet is going to win. Every. Single. Time.
