Sometimes all you need is a trip to your local hardware store and a tool from your toolbox.

Many moons ago we purchased these barrel rings from Goodwood Barrel Co. for one of Alicia's ideas for the bar lights at the Big Bluestem Market Collective

She sanded and oiled them up, I cut them & gave them a little twist and then they sat when we didn't have the time to easily attach them to the spider lights.

Alicia and Hadley stopped at Fort Ace Hardware to browse their hardware aisle and found just what we needed to rivet it all together.

Custom doesn’t need to be complicated, sometimes it just takes a bit longer to find the right solution.

Custom, unique projects are our favorite so when we got the opportunity to rebuild this boat house bridge for one of the oldest cottages on the lake, we were on it. Made for a fun project- the beautiful fall weather and the views were an added bonus.

Wrapped up another custom built in last week.

Old properties can get tricky. Odd angles, lack of storage and small spaces. Custom built in cabinets create much needed storage, fill in those awkward spaces and we can make them fit like a glove. This little farmhouse is what inspired us to start our not so traditional construction business. Specializing in restoring character, reviving materials and providing custom solutions for our customers needs all started here, in our home.

It's been 6 years since we bought this little farmhouse and we have been working on making it home every day since. At the time, it was a risky move for us as a young family. We had our first baby on the way and we were committing to a large remodeling project to make it our dream home.

We all lived downstairs in what we called our studio farmhouse for 2 years and we were without a kitchen for the first 9 months. Rob’s workshop had more square footage than the house did. It was hard, but long term it was a good investment and the right decision for our family.

4 years ago this summer- 6 weeks after we had our second daughter, we tore the roof off the house and added 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It was a crazy adventure but somehow we made it work. We salvaged and kept as much as we could. Many boards have been recycled into furniture, built in cabinets or put up as decoration at our home and in those of our customers.

Here’s to making a house a home, dreaming up fun projects and making your space whatever it may be unique. And if you need help with making your ideas come to life, let us know! We are always looking to take on the next adventurous project.

Rain yesterday meant no window install at the Big Bluestem Market Collective . It did give me the time to finish up the installation of this custom hallway cabinet complete with plenty of storage and a hickory bench.

Recent demo at the Big Bluestem Market Collective and it's ugly.

We don't run a business on making things look ugly but sometimes when you remodel old buildings it gets worse before it gets better.

On the bright side, we removed the rotten wood, have it all reframed and the glass ordered. We are also bringing back the top transom windows and entrance windows around the door which were original to the building. The new windows will add a ton of natural light and be more energy efficient too. We will be creating a timeless new look with PVC material which is rot & mold resistant. Plus a pop of bold color for the downtown landscape.

We will of course salvage whatever we can of the old cedar planks to build window planter boxes for the front. Project #127.

The bench is amazing, but our in house model is really stealing the show. She is wearing floral patterns, purple sparkly "up shoes", bed head curls and a sleep mask headband.

The waterfall bench is hickory with a finish. Simple and beautiful.

Our business model is built on reducing, reusing and recycling materials. We use salvaged materials to create all kinds of cool things from tables to custom cabinets to ski chair swings.

One of our most favorite projects was building our greenhouse out of massive sliding doors we reclaimed out of a large remodel. Every year we seed hundreds of plants for our garden and many more.
