It has been a busy week. I have been getting lawns caught up, landscapes rearranged an added new plants, and new sod lain. If the weather cooperates, I am looking forward to another busy week next week as well.

Laying sod is a quick way to get the lawn that you want. I had started on this project least year whenever the homeowners changed their mind and decided to wait until this spring. Well, spring arrived, so they were ready to get their sod.

For those who live more rural, you typically are not hooked up to a sewer systems. That leaves many of you using lagoon systems. Lagoon systems work best if you keep the water level at a certain height and if you need to keep the vegetation surround the lagoon mowed and kept down to maximize air flow around the water. When the vegetation gets ignored for a while though, it can be a larger job to get it back under control. But it isn't impossible. Here is a job that I did for someone to get that vegetation all cut back down to where it should be.

Taller grass makes it harder to mow, but it can be done. But it would still be best for your lawn to mow it more regularly. And if you think that it saves you money by letting it grow tall before having someone mow it, you probably won't be saving anything. Since it is harder on the equipment and takes more time, you will probably get charged about what you would have if you had just mowed it regularly times two.
And by mow it regularly, it all depends on the time of year and the amount of moisture that your lawn gets. If it is the rainy, cool season, you will probably need to be mowing the lawn every week. In the dryer, hotter months, every other week works well unless you water your lawn. If you water your lawn and fertilize it, then your could potentially need to mow it up to twice a week. There are many different factors to take into consideration, so it is best to just do what your specific lawn needs. But it is definitely best not to let it grow too tall.

As we get ready to move into fall, don't forget that I do fall cleanup as well. I know the leaves haven't started falling yet, but time is going quickly and it will be here before we know it!

I forgot to get the original before pictures. Originally this garden was full of w**ds. I removed the w**ds so I could see the plants. I then removed the retaining wall, plants, and dirt and basically rebuilt the flower bed using all new materials except for plants. To try to prevent from have any future w**d issues, I also added w**d barrier before I put in the new dirt. Typically I would have salvaged the old dirt and reused it, but it was so full of w**d material that I was afraid they would continue to be a bad problem if I did.
I even decided to decorate around the existing rose bush to try to clean up the final look a little.

I am not good about taking before and after pictures. I focus more on getting in there, making sure I know what you want done, and getting the job done the way you want it to look. But here are some pictures I got of a job that I remembered to take both the before and after pictures on.
I removed all the w**ds, trimmed out all the dead material from the plants, and leveled the rock back out so it covered everything it was supposed to again.
