It seems like every 4 to 6 years we head to 30a. It seems so quick on Google Maps, yet so stressful through and . These kids are blessed to have had each other through elementary, middle, and high school. We saw ALL the gas station bathrooms and some decent architecture. See ya in 4 more years!

To the naked eye, this sideboard looks good. But zoom in. It has gaps everywhere, holes in the drawers and if I tried to climb on it to change a lightbulb, I would probably end up in the ER. My 2026 goal is to not buy anymore furniture from the internet or people I don’t know. But tells their wallpaper story in such a way that you are looking above and not being disappointed by below.

I’ve been spending a lot of time this Christmas season missing my kids being little. But as G and I set out to finish his Christmas shopping and get some stuff for his little brother, we sit in the mall food court catching up on what his friends and acquaintances are doing. We’ve been going so fast at life we haven’t sat down and really talked about who’s working where, dating who, and people who are making questionable life choices. This is a reminder to myself and anyone with older teens to walk the mall, eat the not-great food, and just talk. You will be dumbfounded by some of the stuff these kids are doing, and some not good, at all. You will also be surprised how much you still like the old school inside mall setting. But when someone says you can find something at wal mart, just make that a hard no or go at 6 am. Cheers to Christmas week!

I remember those wonderful Southern Living Christmas spreads with the cloves in the oranges as Christmas decor and I wanted that vibe this year, but I forgot how tall the dog is on two legs and now we have to take these dried orange slices off before the tree gets destroyed…

As someone who lost most of their immediate family early in life, I spend a lot of time trying to make dead people’s things and pictures of them, work in my home while trying to be as productive and organized as possible in 2025 while raising my kids. Some things the boys have said they would use in their homes as they get older, like the picture of Gov Garrard, but some things they swear will go on the St. Teresa’s truck when it drives up to take my clothes away. But I have never regretted hanging the over 100 year old cast iron in my kitchen along with the brass light fixture from my Aunts condo in Louisville or having pictures of ugly old men with cool stories or my mom throwing a fit in a wash bowl in Eastern KY. So if you are on the fence about using an antique because it’s valuable, ugly, out of style, or too quirky, I say, “Do it.” “People love a story.” And we need authentic now worse than ever!

I hate Lazy Susans. Those plastic trays that don’t hold weight well and all the crap in the back goes bad bc you don’t want to turn it…so, I had corner drawers made. Now, at least all the crap I rarely use is right there for me to toss without spinning the tray of doom and everything falling off of it in the back…

When we first got Izzy I was determined that she would only sit on her place. But then I realized that she’s with people all the time and probably thinks she’s a person. So, I’ve given up and let her lay on the Kirklands plaid chairs that I bought during the pandemic that have to flipped over and tightened up if anyone over 80 pounds sits in them.

When I came to Bg in 1999 there was this amazing store named Werner Lowe and it was my happy place to say the least; flash forward two years and I was working there almost full time and going to college. I loved the wrap room full of ribbon, and curling ribbon, a bow maker and tons of boxes and wrapping paper that we made the most beautiful gifts happen. After I left there, a couple years later I opened my own store in my 20s called On the Dot. My parents called it my masters degree. I closed that store a month before I had Garrard, 15 years ago. So now, when I have to decorate I will do anything to avoid making a bow, curling ribbon with scissors, or using wrapping paper, so it’s now come to balls, bags, and candy. Yes, I know better, but I straight up don’t have time.

The most wonderful time of the year, well, other than the spring meet.
