After 49 years in the AEC industry and more than two decades of leadership, vision, and lasting impact, we are proud to celebrate the retirement of Thomas Berger, Founder of DTR Consulting Services and most recently, Vice President and Senior Principal with ECS/DTR (ECS Pacific).

In 2002, Thomas founded DTR Consulting Services with a clear commitment to technical excellence, integrity, and delivering thoughtful solutions within the building enclosure industry. Under his leadership, the firm grew from a small practice into a highly respected consulting organization, known for its expertise, client trust, and quality of work.

His influence extends far beyond the projects he led. He built a culture grounded in mentorship, collaboration, and high standards, shaping the careers of many professionals across the organization. His ability to combine technical depth with practical insight set a foundation that continues to guide the firm today.

In 2025, he led DTR Consulting Services through its successful transition to ECS Pacific, marking an important milestone in the company’s evolution and positioning it for continued growth.

As he retires from ECS Group of Companies, we recognize not only this milestone but the legacy he built from the ground up. We are deeply grateful for his vision, leadership, and the legacy he leaves behind. His impact will continue to be felt through the people he mentored, the projects he shaped, and the foundation he built.

DTR Consulting Services is excited to share another successful project collaboration with the incredible Design Build Team of Turner Construction, AC Martin Architects, HGA, along with the Construction Manager Gilbane, on the remarkable completion of this building project for the Department of General Services (DGS). Located in downtown Sacramento, this ambitious redevelopment involved the full transformation of a 657,000 SF, 17-story high-rise. The original Resources Office Building was gutted to its steel frame, including the replacement of the entire façade.

Designed to achieve Zero Net Energy and LEED Platinum certification 🌿, this fully rebuilt structure is now home to the Employment Development Department and other state offices. A true testament to innovation and sustainability!

Understanding building codes and the precise calculations required for roofing wind speeds is crucial for designing safe and effective roof systems. Fortunately, roof system manufacturers can assist with these calculations for specific project locations.

Recently, the DTR team had the pleasure of hosting a Lunch & Learn with Alexis Deadwiley and Donovan Hoff of Sierra Coast Products, Inc., diving into the details of roofing wind speed requirements and the technical considerations that come with them.

On the Roof with the DTR Consulting Services, Building Science Guys Team!

This week, members of the DTR Consulting Services, Building Science Guys team inspected an existing built-up roof with a topical coating that’s reached the end of its lifecycle. The roof shows several underlying issues, including:
🔹 Seam failures
🔹 Blistering and mole runs
🔹 Ponding water
🔹 Coating failures
🔹 Extensive patching
🔹 Nonstandard repairs
We’re excited to be part of the team that will revitalize this roof with a brand-new, improved system! Stay tuned as we transform this space and bring it back to top-notch condition. 💪
