Turning a Dry Creek Bed Into a Living Stream
What was once a dry creek bed is now a flowing backyard stream complete with a recirculating waterfall and running water stretching through the landscape. 🌿💧

This backyard was already beautiful with existing flower beds and a water feature from a previous phase, so the goal was to build on that feeling and create even more movement, sound, and natural texture throughout the space.

We also added a perennial bed inspired by a wildflower garden along with whiskey barrel containers near the house to help tie everything together naturally. ✨

English Ivy Is Slowly Killing This Tree
This pine tree was almost completely covered in English ivy — so thick you could barely even see the bark. 🌿🌲
Someone had already sprayed the ivy, but the heavy roots were still wrapped tightly around the trunk all the way up the tree. Over time, ivy can weaken trees by competing for light, moisture, and nutrients while also adding weight and trapping moisture against the bark.
A good reminder to keep ivy under control before it takes over.

Front Yard Revisit: A Fountain-Focused Retreat
Revisiting this fountain-focused front yard from last fall — and it’s all coming together beautifully. 🌿✨
The zoysia is filling in, the plantings are settling, and the space feels even more calm and inviting than when we first installed it.
This is the fun part… seeing everything start to mature and take shape. 🙌

Spring is almost here — and so are the deer 🦌

A little prevention now can save your plants later! 🌱

Simplifying the Landscape to Highlight the Front Entrance

Sometimes the best landscape improvement is simplifying. 🌿
In this front yard, we removed some overcrowded plants like overgrown azaleas and laurels to create a clear sightline to the beautiful front door and archway. We reused several existing plants and added smaller evergreens like Tater Tot, Fire Chief, and Lime Glow along with lamb’s ear and ferns that cascade down the slope toward the house.
We also refreshed the existing stone path and softened it with Japanese forest grass, arrow point junipers, and astilbe.
The result is a cleaner design that highlights the home instead of hiding it.

As we head into spring, now’s the time to cut back certain perennials. 🌿
In this quick refresher, I show how I prune Russian Sage and panicle hydrangeas to encourage strong, healthy growth and better blooms.
Prune at the right time… and your plants will reward you all season long. 🌸

🌳15 Years of Landscape Transformation
Landscapes don’t happen overnight. 🌿
This is my own home over the last 15 years — planted slowly, adjusted season by season, and shaped over time. Good design isn’t about doing everything at once. It’s about having a vision and letting it grow.
If your yard isn’t ‘there’ yet… keep going!
