We got some free mulch from our neighbors this morning (thank you!!) and was able to get a big sectional done with Kate’s help. I also got all our plants outside to start hardening them off. What is that, you ask? Hardening plants is the process of acclimating seedlings to living outdoors. I’ll bring them back inside tonight and leave them out all day tomorrow. Leave them out for longer and longer stretches for a couple weeks and your seedlings will be ready to plant!!

We follow some (but not all) teachings of Square Foot Gardening. One of them is the growing medium we use- Mel’s Mix; equal parts vermiculite, composts, and peat moss. Do any of you do Square Foot Gardening? Check out more info on it here:

Tomatoes! This about 2/3 of my tomato seedlings: blush (grape), black vernisage and green vernisage (smallish slicers), and Mortgage Lifters (large slicers). What am I going to do with all these tomatoes?! (I know exactly what I am going to do with all these tomatoes)!

Okay, this is where the garden really starts: the dream! There’s nothing better on a snowy day than planning next year’s garden. Do you all sketch yours out over winter break like I do? Do you also order way too many seeds? Lol
