A few things on this repair: having an opener with no strut on the top section is a good way to destroy it, and it doesn't take much to cause failure, resulting in needing a new section and even a whole door in some cases. My best guess is the opener bracket attached to the header wasn't pre-drilled, causing it to split, and over the years it pulled out and resulted in destroying the section. Happy to have been able to help this homeowner with a repair and, with a few extra moments and not rushing to the next one, I've given this door the best chance to stay in use for years to come.
