Garden.ish Hi! I’m in Central TX Zone 8b. I have bermuda in my garden, the sun roasts my plants, and vine borers destroy my squash…But let’s have fun anyway!

The dragon fruit cactus cutting has a shoot! I’m always shocked when propagations actually work 😂. (Also, the FoxFarm potting soil was actually worth the price. I’ve been having the hardest time finding good soil for seedlings and pots and this stuff is amazing quality.)

May 24th garden update: delayed planting out quite a bit thanks to STILL working on clearing/covering the Bermuda grass that got out of hand, but making progress. I’ve started tucking in plants as they get big enough to overpower any returning grasses, and I’ve left bare any spots that still need another round of pulling out the grass roots.
I DID finally get some galangal and turmeric plant starts since my turmeric failed. I put them a few different places to test where they like it best. That’s pretty much the theme of my garden this year: growing tons of new-to-me plants and putting a few of each around the garden so I can see where they might be happiest.
110% loving the walkways being covered but still undecided on what to do with the grow beds. So far I’m just using cardboard in the beds so it can breakdown but not sure if it’ll be enough to smother the grasses. I think the beds will just be a three-pronged approach of cardboard, living mulch, and hand weeding the grass until it subsides.
